It fits,  but not that he was ok with Orlando coaching job.

I'm not so sure why everyone is so quick to say Kidd is a bad coach tho based on his resume so far. 1 season in Brooklyn before fired for non on court reasons. Some front office drama with a crazy Russian owner. Throw Brooklyn days out the window.

So we have 3.5 years with him in Milwaukee.
Giannis went from 12.7 ppg to 27 ppg. And rebounds and assists went up huge as well.
Middleton went from a 13ppg scorer to a 20ppg scorer.

Those were his constants in Milwaukee and they got DRASTICALLY better under him.
He can coach guys up very well based on the evidence. Individually at least.

Look at those Bucks teams and tell me those rosters are anything but a 500 team. Look at the Bucks team the year after he's fired and the improvements.
I have no idea how good of a X's and O's or adjustments wise Kidd is because he's never had a much of a team to work with and do much with. But I think with how good of a basketball mind he has there is pretty decent chance he can be good there. He may have some growing pains in that regard.

What I see with Kidd is a guy that has managed to get the best out of his guys individually and a guy that has related to them.
I think that's what Luka needs and if we keep KP, the same thing for him.

I think Kidd is going to excel here and people are going to look back and realize how wrong they were to think he was a bad coach. I also would have really liked Mosley because I think he's got the same qualities as Kidd. But this is the type of coach I think we needed and I suggested it the day Rick quit.

I also like the way he tells a player of his to spill water on him when he's out of timeouts.  Genius...   Big Grin

It was. I said Carlisle should do it, when we needed extra rest for Luka early in the 4th quarter, instead Carlisle just watched while our leads evaporated. Could have used his anger issues for something good. Yell at Trey Burke and throw his drink on the floor in anger.

I'm hoping for the best. I think Kidd could have a lot of upside and hopefully has learned a lot in LA. He's also been coaching LeBron which could help him coach Luka.

Nobody coaches LeBron.

Kidd turns down the interview on June 6....RC steps down on June 17.

I think that lends credence to my guess that much of this has been in motion for awhile.

I claim Mavs Nostradamus status on this one.  Saw Carlisle & Kidd as the most likely potential moves immediately post Donnie, although wasn't outright sure.  My crystal ball was a little foggy that day.   Big Grin

For the record I really like the Kidd move and the Carlisle move. I think Rick had a great run and was out of moves for this group.
Kidd tbqh I have no idea as how good a real coach he is or will be, X's and O's etc. but in theory he should be after his stellar HoF PG career.   He's young so I hope he assembles a great staff around himself.

One day I may have to tell the story about how I met Jason Kidd, very briefly ... at the Playboy Mansion.

Pretty good post, you know Kidd actually won a playoff series as a rookie head coach and that was far more recently than the last playoff series won by Rick Carlisle. He took the Bucks from a 15 win team to the playoffs, and won a ring as an assistant in LA. Plus he just understands the game and might actually be able to teach Luka something since he’s one of the only other people on planet earth with a comparable bball IQ. This will be fun!

I don't love the Kidd signing from an Xs and Os standpoint, but I love it from a Luka standpoint.    The Mavs put a ridiculous amount of workload on a 22 year old's plate,  both on the court and in the lockerroom.    We make a lot about how big of a deal it was to lose veteran leadership like JJB, but that's also compounded by a head coach who's not great at human relationships.   Carlisle acquiesce to Luka, but that doesn't address the core issue that you have a 22 year old kid in way over his head.   He's not 28 year old Michael Jordan, he needs guidance too.  If KP is being a putz and he and Luka aren't on speaking terms, it's up to the head coach to deal with the issue rather than leave it to Luka to figure out on his own.    That Kidd was brought to LA simply because LeBron thought that highly of him speaks to how much weight his reputation still carries.

As far as the fear of being a "Mark Puppet", while there is familiarity between Kidd and Mark, I don't see Kidd being some shrinking violet within the organization who just kowtows to Cuban because he's scared to voice his opinion.

If it's going to be a "we're getting the band back together" staff, I'd rather bring in Stotts as the offensive coordinator.    Love Jason Terry, but he really don't need to have a spot on this staff.   He was an assistant on the University of Arizona and from all accounts his biggest asset was recruiting.

I like me some former Mavs but I don´t want a "banana boat Mavs edition" coaching staff. Need some experience as well. Should be JJB or Terry. Not both.

Uh, Kidd did leave Cuban at the altar once as a free agent. He is not afraid of him.

Tyson Chandler for defensive big man coach, let’s do this!

Man, the world is collectively pretty upset about the Kidd thing. I wonder if that will blow over a bit, or if people will dig the argument up every couple of months.

I wish I could dispute that Ringer article, but i can't.  Kidd clearly has some faults and has had some ups and downs at his first two spots.    I think getting really good assistants will be key.  as much as I like Jet, I would prefer we go in another direction.   Maybe JJB can be the last coach on the bench or behind the bench, but we need some experience next to Kidd.

Does everyone know Popeye Jones is an asst coach with the Sixers and DaSagana Diop is an asst with the Rockets?   Interesting that several former mavs are trying to get into coaching.

Kidd needs to use his rolodex and bring in real assistants with experience...not just 2011 alumni to make the homers happy. It's probably going to include Joe Prunty, who was on his bench in Brooklyn and Milwaukee and also was assistant to Avery for a few years here.

If you want to give JJB/Jet whoever developmental coach roles like Darrell Armstrong then fine but I don't want them as part of the core assistants.

In all seriousness, I am open to the possibility works out here...I think have a good infrastructure with the coaching staff and good communication with the front office will be important.

I am not sure who they interviewed, but I would have been in favor of interviewing a few more candidates.    Did Dirk interview Kidd or did he just vouch for him due to their relationship.   I would have liked to see a few more people brought in. Especially some of the impressive younger candidates.
