That's the only thing that could possibly make this day better for me.

The people who liked Donnie, Carlisle or both are upset today. The people who disliked them are happy. All of that makes sense.

What I'M upset about is how much of a clown car the organization has made itself out to be over the past 3-4 days. It just keeps getting worse. I'm pretty surprised that the "clean house" people aren't a little more apprehensive about the WAY this is happening, despite their hopes it would happen. I think that's wishful thinking to an insane level.

Just get on twitter and count the amount of "mavs are a joke" tweets on your timeline. This is not a good day for the Mavericks, regardless of whether or not you believed it was time for a coaching change.

There is a lot of grey for me.

I have felt for quite some time that Donnie had to go. I thought though that the Luka trade might have bought him a few more years but overall his performance has been poor.

I griped about the RC offense the last two years but now I realize a lot of it was probably Luka just refusing to listen to anyone. RC can be abrasive and hard headed himself. However, I still think of RC as a top notch coach and genuinely look at this as a sad day if Luka is the one driving him away.

I think Cuban can be a clown but I don’t see him as Jerry. Cuban has been gracious and always shared and even given a lion’s share of the credit to Donnie and RC over the years. Maybe he got infatuated with this Bob guy and also saw some things wrt Donnie’s performance that mandated a different approach but in the attempt to not outright hurt Donnie he went about it the wrong way and still ended up losing Donnie and RC.

Bob.  I didn’t even know this guy existed until the last few days. Given Luka’s jabs at him I don’t believe he is here for long but not all the moves attributed to this guy are as bad as folks are making it out. Also whether he was the right guy or not, I can’t fault Cuban for looking at the front office and our total lack of assets and talent and feeling a new voice might be needed

I'm right there with you my man. Cuban has always been a moron to me that got lucky with Broadcast.com. All of these toxic stories about the front office and now all of this just tell me that he has no idea how to manage people. That's not even including what he did to the title team the year after winning. ugh

Yes, this is the issue, even more than whether the specific people leaving is a good/bad thing.

The whole chaotic, dysfunctional collapse. That's the horrifying part.

This is all fair as always, keem, thanks!

Find someone else to do your analytics or lock Bob in a closet far, far, far away from the team.  If Bob is back next year, I wouldn't advise investing in an Luka merchandise.
Whoever wrote about the Miami FO structure said Shane Battier is head of analytics. Derek Harper for that spot anyone? KL?

Harp probably has a voicemail from Cuban telling him he is fired but in unaware since he lost his phone.

Agree! But actualy it does notmatter. We all know huge changes has to be made to make DAL better. Beside owner those two guys are the head of the team, it's logical to start there.

It was pretty sickening to hear Zach Lowe and Tim McMahon talk about the power dynamics at the organization today, going back a long way. The way Cuban makes all the decisions he cares about, and that there are no organizing principles, just a matter of whoever has Cuban's ear at the moment. Including such a management luminary as Chandler Parsons.

It's not that we hadn't heard most of the bits and pieces before. Just hearing it all pulled together and laid out like that was nauseating.

All of this will be immediately forgotten if they nail the GM. Finley is not it, imho. I don't know the guy, might be he is awesome, but he will never have the media/fan/player/agent trust he really has the power.

Based on what we are hearing it just seems improbably that will happen and/or that Cuban will take a backseat.  I really, really hope I'm wrong but I just can't imagine Donnie or Rick walking away from a talent like Luka.

You're right on target with this take, and every time you write it you highlight a new detail that makes me agree even more.

I DO know about Finley, as do many of us around here. This franchise owes him a TON.

But THIS is a chance for Cuban to shut everyone up and help the franchise inch closer to a seat at the grownups' table. He needs to hire a SERIOUS hombre for GM and let them start being the face of the front office. Right now people in this subculture look at the Mavs like the organization is an idiot billionaire's toy, because THAT'S WHAT IT IS. You don't get 5-6 championship banners that way. Perception matters.

This is not a time, imho, to give someone a "chance" at GM or head coach. This is a time to collect PROS, and plenty of them will want to be part of Luka's era.

Dude, you're starting to piss me off. Mission accomplished.

Stop enjoying this, please.

(hopefully, this came off like a joke, which is how it was intended)

With the depth on the team, he certainly could have played.  Probably still could.
