THJ was part of the heft ransom needed to acquire KP. It's also why RC is so frustrating. THJ rehabbed his reputation from one of the leagues worst contracts to someone who is going to get a handsome contract this offseason. There are a laundry list of players that RC has been able to maximize and got paid elsewhere. It's just weird who flourishes here and who doesn't.
The major problem the franchise has had of late is they are impatient. Give the MBT all the credit in the world for the Luka/Brunson draft. The issue was that the roster was pretty devoid of talent otherwise and would have been better served being bad for a few years and getting high draft picks to build a core rather than going all in on KP before they really knew what they had in Luka. Luka and KP cost us 3 FRPs (4 if you want to count Dennis) and hamstrung our cap. I guess that also circles back to how inept our front office is at drafting, but building like the Suns, Nuggets, Hawks or Utah is much smarter. Save your big splash move of cap spending or huge trades for last, once you have a solid foundation.
