“Kidd has a reputation of not caring about any of that (long term view vs. who helps me win tomorrow night). He gets enamored with certain prospects. He gets enamored, frankly sometimes, you know he’s managed and repped by Excel and other Excel clients. There has been a long history of him pushing for that…(gives example of Kidd pushing for Excel client MCW in Milwaukee). This is something Nico is going to have to have the juice to tell your head coach sometimes ‘no you’re gonna have to play the guys that we give you. You’re gonna have a voice in these matters, but you are not The Voice’”

If we win an NBA title while paying HALF of our cap to KP and Powell as #2 and #3 options, then Luka is the best player of all time.
Wasn´t Norman Powell just in Portland? With Dame, McCollum, Covington and Nurkic they lost to a Murray-less Nuggets team in the first round? That did happen, right?
So now the idea is to make him the 2nd best player on the Mavs , which is basically what THJ (sadly) was in the play-offs.

So following history, Oladipo signs a 1-year deal in Dallas and is packaged at the deadline with a second-year player and another expiring for an impending max-level RFA and an underrated wing scorer? I can work with that.

I remembered the name finally...John Jenkins. He left Duffy just before signing with Dallas. BTW, not only is Oladipo a Schwartz guy now, he's also a Jordan Brand guy. Might as well pencil this one in.
I suspect he'd be traded here, if it happens, to maintain his Bird Rights. Could be into space or could be for a player (like the JRich deals we've been discussing). Makes some sense given our history. Big risk, big upside on a splashy name with injury issues. We wrote the book on that. But, if done right, is really just preserving cap room. Done right equals something short, as you suggest, or something we can get out of if he's injured. Does Miami want JRich back? If not, this is a partnership between Duffy finding a third team where JRich has a shot at getting a good deal a year from now and Schwartz getting Oladipo here on a trade match (I guess it is conceivable THJ is the outgoing to Miami also).
In his SG piece for The Athletic, Hollinger had him as the 5th ranked SG behind Danny Green, Fournier, N. Powell and THJ (in that order):
Tier 3: Midlevel guys
5. Victor Oladipo, Heat: $10,984,520
Victor Oladipo underwent surgery for a torn quadriceps in May, which is a pretty serious injury, and it’s unlikely he’ll be ready to play at the start of the season. He also has struggled offensively since originally injuring the quad in January 2019, which has dragged down some of the former All-Star’s value.
However, there is one really interesting angle here available to Miami, and only Miami: The Heat could re-sign him to a one-year deal for the room exception this year (enabling the Heat to use cap space on other players) and then fork out a bigger multi-year contract a year from now. The Heat would have full Bird rights and would have exhausted their cap room by then, so the only implications for going big on Oladipo in 2022 would be the luxury tax (easy for us to say).
Oladipo is only 29, but with his injury history, any long-term deal is a risk. Overall, this makes him one of this summer’s most fascinating free agents; you could tell me virtually any number for his contract and I wouldn’t be surprised.

If it's just trading for Oladipo on a minimal 1-year deal while getting his bird rights that's the definition of low-risk I guess, but the Mavs would obviously need to make more moves this offseason than just that.

If he's going for 1-2 years (second year either TO or $5M guaranteed) at around MLE money, I'd add him to my list.

To piggyback off Locked on Mavs from this morning, apparently Kidd has been enamored with Excel clients in the past. Here are some notable Excel clients.
Tyler Herro
Marvin Bagley
John Collins
Harry Giles
Brandon Ingram
Malik Monk
Nikola Jokic
Jeremy Lamb
CJ McCollum
Khris Middleton
Kelly Olynk
Dwight Powell
Kemba Walker
Kevin Love
Victor Oladipo

Considering the last two Dwight contracts were basically favors to Excel, I would think they owe us one at this point.

Ya, but he is now a JKidd guy (on top of being a MC guy because he's still trying to win the Rondo trade), so is trading him even an option now????

Oladipo is an interesting buy low candidate. I have no idea how good he can recover from his injury (injuries). He looked to be in good shape last year, but I did not really see the athleticism he had a few years ago, so that is concerning.
My biggest issue with Oladipo is Dallas probably spends their cap room on a 2/3 type player. If they do, Oladipo is probably redundant and also blocks minutes for Green to develop. If you could identify a 3/4 type of player, Oladpio could be a swing for the fence low cost gamble. I am having trouble identifying that 3/4 player unless you think Collins is a legit option. That 3/4 player would need to be a top 3 player on our team, so some of the solid guys are not my real focus.

I personally think so. I think there is a 0% chance he is a legit NBA player again.
But that is just my opinion and I am not a doctor, nor have I seen the details of his medicals.

Yes, because he eats our MLE and doesn't allow us to spend it on another player.
