I was thinking that what the Mavs are going thought right now is similar to June of 1996. Not the exact chain of events but could this be history's weird thing of trying to repeat it self?
Norm Sonju = Donnie Nelson, Dick Mota = Rick Carlisle have just left the organization. The owner still has a life long Mavs and current VP of Basketball Ops Keith Grant = Michael Finley with the club. But for some strange reason he turns to an outsider Frank Zaccanelli = Bob Voulgaris for advice and help run the team.
We all know what happened next back in the summer of 1996. The new MBT thinks they know best and choses not to hire a real GM. And even better they hires a assistant coach from another team that does not fit with the teams best player Jason Kidd = Luka Doncic. This resulted in Grant/Finley leaving the club and Kidd/Doncic being traded.
Is Mavs history trying to repeat itself here in 2021?

Well...it's a reach, but I can see it (what goes on in your mind?). I've been afraid for several months now that the MBT was going to screw around and lose Luka. We are in a dangerous transitional period. It's going to get better, or it's going to get worse. I don't have a lot of confidence in Cuban. I'll hope for the best.

I think that the past two years since the KP trade (which was a gamble most FOs in the league would have taken) have been Zachanelli-esque, just in a different way.
Doncic would be approximately twice the pooch-screw that Kidd was.

This. So many people are so quick to jump to conclusions.
We don't KNOW whether any of this is good or bad, yet. All we KNOW is that Cuban didn't want it to happen this summer. This is not something that was planned in advance. That doesn't mean it can't ultimately be a positive time of good changes, but there
is potential for even the most pro-change fans to be disappointed with what happens next.

If anything, this sends a good signal to Luka, that Cuban wants to win. The former GM was not able to add players around Luka to win the championship. And everyone, besides maybe only Bayless, thinks and knows that Luka is at the level ready to win it right now, just having a above average talent around him, not even great one. The way we played against Clippers, and looking how Utak now played without Kawhi, just further proves that. We were very little from winning the championship, much closer than people here on the board think. We are one Sadiq Bey or Bane away from that,a Seth Curry, and/or just a slight better use of KP in the schemes.
The GM and coach failed, and if anything, this is a great sign to Luka to stay. Well, depends who they hire what will happen next. It could be worse, it could get better.
