I'd probably give around 20 mill for Lonzo in FA.
I go back to KP to New Orleans makes a ton of sense. Ball/Bledsoe/1st (2023 worst pick between Lakers/Pelicans) for KP/Brunson would be a great deal for both sides. Dallas resigns THJ and enters FA next summer with cap space by cutting Bledsoe's partial guaranteed deal. Ball/Luka/DFS with THJ back to the bench or play THJ at the 3 and move DFS to the 4. Dallas looks to the trade market with 2022, 2024 picks available to trade plus Kleber/DFS/Green (hopefully improved). Of course Ball is a Rich Paul client sooooo probably not even worth entertaining the idea that we would go after one of his clients.

But on the other side he looks like he's ready to play and be good now. The biggest thing for him is going to be his 3pt shot. He's got good mechanics there tho. I think he's going to eventually become a really good shooter. I've been a Josh Green truther just like I was a DFS truther. He reminds me so much of DFS early career. Good things happened when he was on the floor but his offense was awful.

I don't think Donnie really tipped his hand in any direction. We like our pieces, we want to add more pieces.

KP is the one who needs to get in the lab this offseason. He needs to add upper and lower body strength and work on his postgame instead of camping out at the 3 pt line. He's capable of doing both, like the great Nowitski. And Carlisle needs to devise a plan to get him more involved in the offense. This will be his 3rd year, let's hope the third time's a charm.

What if Richardson opts in (it feels like that likely happens now with how bad he was the last bit of the year)?
I can get behind the scenario that I prefer opting him in and using Richardson as a contract to absorb salary for assets. Powell/Richardson/Plus cap filler for Kemba and a 1st? That gets Celtics away from the cap and clears up a bunch of money for free agency next summer (pretty easy path to max cap space).

Since I doubt Dallas would want to trade both Powell and Maxi in that deal, I assume the "filler" would likely be WCS (team option) + Burke. Powell/Richardson/WCS/Burke for Kemba? (Normally I'd balk at a 4-for-1 deal, but in the offseason with two motivated teams it's more doable). Boston could use the big men, for sure. Burke/Richardson could even be useful replacements for Kemba. And there's the salary flexibility you already mentioned. Dallas would really only miss Powell, and they would get a real playmaker in the deal. If the medical team in Dallas has any inclination that Kemba can be built back up physically, that could be a tempting gamble to get a PG they've obviously liked for a bunch of spare parts. The risk, of course, is that Kemba really is washed and they burned their trade balancing contracts to get him. But it's an interesting thought experiment -- how little would Boston have to ask for in return before you consider taking a flyer?

Josh Green is a top 5 Mavs player...

How I see the Mavs roster moving forward:
Starters: Bench: PG Luka Brunson SG THJ SF DFS PF Maxi C Powell JB, THJ, DFS, Maxi, Powell is the bench unit. Mavs have to find a way to fill up the starting unit by trading KP, JRich, other assets and signing an impact player with the MLE. My idea is the following: 1. Trade KP for Nurkic ((real center, a better version of what Boban can do offensively) and RoCo(3 and D 3/4 who can cut to the basket for opportunitic baskets which is what KP was reduced to doing in the playoffs) ; 2. Trade JRich, JGreen to Minnesota for Ricky Rubio (Can be a secondary playmaker, point of attack defender, can play point and move Luka off ball.) 3. Sign Danny Green for MLE (Catch and shoot 3 and D wing). Possible Roster: Starters: Bench: PG Luka (33 mins) Brunson (15) SG Rubio (24) THJ (24) SF DGreen (24) DFS (24) PF RoCo (32) Maxi (16) C Nurkic (32) Powell (16)

DFS had a broken shot his sophomore year but earned minutes with solid play and good decision making. If I were to have expectations for Green it’s that he can break into the line up with consistency.

That's good for your TS% too. That's also why we didn't even try to contain him. And he really was shooting out of his mind.

His fit with Zion was not the greatest. I think his contract is actually pretty good and he's still only 27 believe it or not. I could see Mavs swapping some contracts to get Adams. I am ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL on the Adams train. Dude is exactly what we're looking for in a center. It actually makes me quite sad because I don't think the Mavs will actually acquire him.

IF that trade didn't work out, and that's a big if, then the Mavs would be destroyed the next 3 years. Kemba is a huge swing for the fences. I don't know if we need to be that desperate right now

The more I think about it, the more I would like Lonzo Ball on our team. This article was from a few weeks ago, but it makes a lot of sense in terms of his fit in Dallas. Let's say we get Lonzo and resign THJ...would that be a successful offseason? Obviously, we would have to find a trade partner for J-Rich (if he opts in) for us to resign THJ. Luka Lonzo DFS Kleber KP Brunson THJ J-Green Bey (I think he's ready to play) Powell Still have the R-MLE to add another player. That's a very young bench, so I would definitely try to add another veteran player. But I love the backcourt of Luka and Lonzo. |
