KP is going to give us fools gold production but I am not confident he can be counted on as a 2nd star on a playoff team. The MBT will never agree with me but that's fine. Of course - there is always an option to trade one of those two and keep Brunson. 50/40/90 is rare company in the NBA. You lose that efficiency you are not likely to get it back and it will be another Seth Curry situation. I am okay with getting Lowery on this team but I am not letting Brunson go unless its for a top 15 level superstar. None of those guys ring the bell for me

Drummond is not gonna solve our pick-and-roll defense guys.

JB has commented that they are becoming good friends off the court. All good developments. Maybe Brunson should stay. I just like the idea of getting Lowry because of the vet leadership. Lowry is also far superior to Brunson on D. KL, in any event, I don't trade KP without getting a top 40 young star in return. No reset. We don't have our pick this year. We can't do '97 Nellie with Luka on the roster.

IMO you shouldn't pay any big more than $10 million a year if they can't defend the pick-and-roll to an adequate level so KP definitely needs to be able to do that.

@"omahen" has this right. If you’re ready to commit to a path that inches Brunson toward a sixth man role where he plays 28 minutes off the bench, then fine. If not, you have to get what you can for him. Assets are in short supply.

So far they haven't., he is just the fourth guard He doesn't need to be the starter to play next to Luka at the end of the game. Hella kudos to RC for trusting THJ and JB to play good-enough defense with their hot hands.

I agree with this logic. I think ONE of JB, THJ, or JR has to be used to upgrade the roster somehow (and maybe even in conjunction with a KP trade).

His overall defense has been much worse this year, not sure if that's because of injury tentativeness or what. KL believes that's who KP is as a player. I understand the issues with pick and roll defense, but KP was seen as the defensive anchor for all of last year - until those Blazers games. I tend to be with you to some extent - he still isn't back, whether physically or mentally. (02-10-2021, 10:41 PM)Kammrath Wrote: I agree with this logic. I think we'll have to use cap space if we want to keep Brunson, so that could limit our options. In any event, I'll double down - if we trade KP with any of those three, we have to get two top-five minutes guys back - preferably, a young star and a vet.

Here's an off-season trade idea... can't be done until summer because of Adam's extension:
https://tradenba.com/trades/gtTY5BBuu Mavs get LaVine and WCJ... worth it for KP and Brunson?

If he can't, I want no part of him. All two-way players, please.

If I have my choice to pick out of JB, THJ, or JR I trade Josh Richardson no hesitation. Its easier to find a guy that can match Richardson's skillset than it is to find someone to match JB's efficiency and THJ's attitude and effort.
The 3 pieces the mavs should look at moving for upgrading James Johnson KP Josh Richardson That is about 57 million ins salary we can move |
