Here's John Hollinger's take...Keep It Simple Stupid.  He shoots some holes in some of the more exotic thoughts floating around and concludes simple is good.

I am for any plan that does not screw the Mavs.  Well, maybe not any plan.

I can see his point on the group play.  Could have some real stinkers once the groups are decided.  Plus a team may stop trying once it knows it is eliminated, which might let another team advance without a fight.  He also brings up the draft positions and how nobody is addressing that aspect.  Could we see tanking in a field of 20?

If the Clippers are the Mavs destiny, so be it.

Why reward Orlando?  In open cities let them play there.  Beings in revenue.  Maybe let them have staggered seating or whatever team/city decides.  It sucks fo have all in one place.  Only play games there if the teams home state is on lockdown.  Oklahoma and Texas are pretty much open without spikes.

Disney seems like the only place that can offer housing, venues, and everything else in an enclosed environment where they can effectively (at least try) quarantine and finish out the season.

Plus given that Orlando is barely in the playoffs and look quite weak, seems like a neutral location for all teams.

What´s the difference? There won´t be any fans anywhere they play.

My thoughts on how to resume the season (sorry, don't know if you can or how to post this directly on the site):

Resuming 19-20 season

Doh, found 2 errors in the process. Utah is also within 3 games of LaC so they would be included in the West Series 2 and that would be a 3 team double elimination tournament. Winner gets #2 seed, if that's LaC then other 2 teams drop down to next series of games. If it's either Utah or Den then they get the #2 seed. If LaC fully lose this tournament then Utah and Den get top 2 and 3 seeds and don't drop down to the next series (making that a best of 3 series between OKC and Hou, then the winner of that gets the #5 seed and loser plays Dal in a best of 3 series to determine the 6 and 7 seeds) and LaC gets the #4 seed.

Finally, the theory would have to extend to within 3.5 games or else Mem has the #8 seed locked in at 3.5, the NBA can keep the Zion hopes and dreams alive. Can't be 4 games because then the West would be a huge mess, as if it wasn't already.

The format seems very fair. IMO, Silver deserves props for putting together a reasonable plan in a crazy situation.

(But the Eastern Conference should be extremely embarrassed by how few teams will be represented.)

I guess that is fair.  8 regular season games...against which teams?  Hopefully some head to head match ups with Houston and OKC.

I like that Memphis can earn its way out of a play in game.

Interesting twist if one of the teams invited back doesn't want to be there.

I wonder if they aren't doing it in Orlando as a concession to Disney/ESPN to keep them from trying to recoup TV moneys for the lost national broadcast games.

4-4 should be possible for Dallas with wins against PHX (2x), SAC and at least one of UTA, POR, HOU.
Brutal schedule for Memphis, only top teams and direct opponents for 8th seed.
