I don't know the wisdom of the outcome but the discussion/process to get there would be fascinating to witness with those two personalities.

Shams Charania, Sam Amick and Tony Jones of The Athletic reported Friday the Jazz have started the process of trying to fix the lingering issues between their star players with minimal success.
"It doesn't appear salvageable," a source told The Athletic.
And bleacher report already has us as a possibility to trade for Gobert, for Powell, Hardaway, and a 2nd. Sure there's not much to talk about now so why not discuss it.

If it´s as bad as they say it is, then Utah would jump on that Bulls deal without hesitation.
I don´t want Gobert on the Mavs anymore, but I´d do the deal as long as he agrees to a contract extension. Then I´d immediately start shopping him for a young star and/or picks.
Powell isn't going to be in any deals bc he's virtually untradeable until his contract is an expiring which is a long time from now. I like THJ, I don't think we need to be putting him in trades anymore. I'd like to shuffle some other guys (Wright, JJ types). Gobert is really good as a defensive player but Mavs don't want a traditional 5 bc KP needs to be the stretch 5 for this whole thing to make sense. It would be fun to see a KP Gobert frontcourt which would be absolutely suffocating for the other team lol but ya it's not going to happen. Need to keep looking elsewhere. I'd like to figure out how we can get another stud defensive wing in here.

The odds of Dolan being one of the unnamed execs wanting to cancel the season are approximately 100%.
My guess is that this is just a way for certain owners with no playoff shot to publicly angle for league handouts but with no requirement to spend money on their own games.

I think there is no way the NBA cancels the season unless they absolutely have to. Executives of teams who have no playoff chance may be saying this but.....the TV money is too great. I think they will play. I have no idea of the format but playoffs mean money. Playoffs are what all Basketball People dream of. This will happen unless the virus rises up again; in which case it will not happen because it can't.
Maverick biased thought: Given our home record versus our road record, I think we might have some advantage over other teams in a no fan, on the road environment. Even if we play at home, with no fans, I think our road record proves we play better on the road because our young team stays more disciplined. When we stay disciplined, we are good. We just don't seem as dependent as other teams are on getting motivation from the fans.
I am personally having a glimmer of hope for a Maverick playoff run. Besides, I have some small bets at good odds that "hope" we do well.

Agree on TV contracts/money.
Calling it now, Thunder/Mavs in WCF. Both are good road teams. Plus LBJ will come in way out of shape. Utah has player turmoil. Cali teams will still be in lockdown all summer.

I’ve been wondering for a while if canceling everything might be the best path forward. No matter what format of playing the season/post-season is used, it is a cluster-%%%% and will generate a huge asterisk. It is a financial mess either way. Probably the biggest pro-reopening argument is TV revenue from the playoffs. It sounds like some teams aren’t sure it is worth the trouble and safety risk.
From a selfish standpoint, I’m ready to move on. I get the potential benefit of Luka and KP getting some playoff atmosphere experience. But I’m not sure the atmosphere will be what it usually is. Plus, I’m personally more interested in the draft, trades and free agency than I am losing a best of five to LAC.

For Luka its a huge deal to get playoff experience. Plus in the long run those stats will add up. Lots of fans use playoffs stats to prove this or that and he deserves the chance to have those stats plus the experience.
Just like that lockout shortened season in 2012, they had a full playoffs and those stats counted. Same now, if they play a full playoff then it won’t be shortchanged because of a shortened reg season. What if Luka/Mavs make WCFs thats a lot of experience and stats for future awards.

Me too. Everything will look strange at best. Not to mention all the logistical, ethical and health nightmare. What would they do, if middle of the thing, one or couple of guys test positive? Cancel everything? Say "better luck next time boys" and remove them from the turnament?
However, the main argument is uncertainty, if next season will be able to start in front of fans from October. This could be the motivation to start next season a bit later and finish this one. However, I believe they should construct something inovative to end this season, to give all teams some kind of motivation to come back.

I think they will strictly concentrate on the playoff teams...especially if they end up with any kind of single-site system. The 16 teams would play some number of exhibition games against each other to get in shape and then the playoffs start. This has the added benefit of locking in seeding and draft order as they currently stand
Anything short of 82 games is arbitrary. What the league cares about is the TV money from playoffs. So, any construct starts by filling that need and works backwards to set things up the best way possible to make the playoffs succeed.

Here in Longview, I'd say 70+% are going without facial covering and not paying much attention to social distancing. Stores that are open are busy as hell.
If all this blows up and the incidence (and fatality) rate takes off again, then I don't see the season going any further than it is today.
I also saw that Luka took a private jet home to Europe and may have difficulty getting back. Not to mention possibly serving a 14 day quarantine.

Regarding Luka, he left quite a while ago. Near the end of March if I remember correctly. And it made sense for him to do that. The cases in Slovenia are drastically lower there than in Texas. Plus he had his own private court in his residence in Slovenia that he didn't have in Dallas.
But I'm sure he can always fly back to America on a private jet with no issues, but he'd probably have to do a 14 day qurantine for sure.

Exactly. In Slovenia we were also allowed to go out of house for recreation and similar throughout the whole epidemics. We didn't have full quarantine at any time. Only team sports (sports where there is contact between players) were banned. I am also quite certain some quiet arrangements to use a gym would be possible.
