This is just not understandable to me. Why is this not used more often when trading for expiring contracts?
Pat Riley has taken GMs to school in the last 6 months (if he really pulls this off). Out of a team in cap hell, with a bunch of overpriced long term contracts, he made a contender in 6 months by bringing in an all star in his prime, former MVP and borderline all star. Wow!!!

So strange nearly everyone on this board was meh about Igoudala to Dallas. "He's an old, past his prime, rental," etc.
Miami trades for him and now all of the sudden he's a "former MVP" that helps make the Heat a contender.

More often than not when teams are trading for expiring contracts it's because they want cap relief for the next season, not the player they're trading for.
In regards to Gallinari, he would seem to be a good fit from an offensive perspective, but aren't the Mavs on the record as looking for a defensive wing? I haven't watched Gallinari play much, but just looking at the numbers I don't think he fits that description.

If the player is worthy of extending, then more often than not he's going to be retained rather than traded.
Dallas tried to do an extend and trade for Jordan with Matthews prior to the end of June a couple of years back.

He doesn't fit that description, but man what an offense we'd have.

If Miami traded for Iggy only, I would say as I said immediately when it was published - let them have it, he will not make you much better. Getting Iggy and Gallo for Winslow, removed protection while getting rid of two extremely bad salaries, is a masterpiece (if this is really all they will be paying)!

When does it become too much of a good thing? We've already seen that they're having some troubles figuring out how to make Luka and KP fit together, which I think most assume they will eventually figure out, but there are only so many shots available in a game.

True, however efficiency of such of an offensive squad should be rocket high, even higher as it is as Gallo is much more dangerous offensive player than Maxi (or Powell). Defense would not be able to leave anyone open, as it would be immediately punished by an open very high percentage shot. This would leave the paint wide open for Luka drives. Gallo can also post up smaller defenders.

Gallo would be fun if you could extend him like Iggy with a TO in 2021. Like I mentioned you could probably trade that deal for a late first next year. In the meantime he's a good player.

Oh, I'd be glad to see them bring him in and see how it works out. I really want them to work on the chemistry between KP and Luka though, as that's the future.

Good point about if OKC gets him to extend prior:

Why would anyone trust a random internet blogger over Pat Freaking Riley. It's just insane how anyone with an a-hole can become an expert with a blog.

All he did was list his last year stats and say he’s glad the drama is over

But they made a trade. Too bad the MBT isn't more like that of the pups.
