My TDL targets - (All under 30 years-old, all must be available, all realistic):
GUARDS (PG/SG) - Off. Playtype = PnR BH/Iso/Spot Up.
Realistic: Vanvleet (TOR), Russell (MIN), Morris (WAS).
WINGS (SG/SF) - Off Playtype = Spot Up/Iso/Transition. Defense has to be neutral or better.
Realistic: Trent Jr. (TOR), Levert (CLE).
FORWARDS (SF/PF) - Off has to be passable. Defense has to be a plus.
Realistic: Vanderbilt (UTA).
BIGS (PF/C) - Off Playtype = PnR RM/Put Back. Defense has to be neutral or better.
Realistic: Washington (CHA), Reid (MIN), Gafford (WAS).
Our assets (for ideal targets, I'd include everyone but Luka) :
"Keepers" = Luka, Dinwiddie, Green, Finney-Smith, Kleber (we can't), Wood, Hardy.
"Assets" = Hardaway, Powell, Bullock, Bertans, Ntilikina, '25 DAL 1st, all 2nd rounders.
Guards: Luka, Dinwiddie, A (we need another ball handler here untill Hardy is ready), Hardy (mostly GT minutes).
Wings: B (Needed, since Green is not ready to start yet), Green.
Forwards: Finney-Smith, C (Backup that can help DFS load, would be nice if he could rebound)
Bigs: Wood, Kleber, D (Need another rebounder/bruiser to roll when Wood is out)
If we could fill two of those holes I'd be extatic.
We just paid a whole lot of money to a guy that went 9-29 (31%) on FG and 3-20 (15%) 3-pt% in both our win or go home elimination games last couple of playoffs. SMH

My eye test tells me two things about Wood:
1) He is the most talented player to have played alongside Luka so far.
2) He is not being used optimally most of the time and as such I do not expect his advanced stats to look great. And Wood himself has also been inconsistent, but I think part of that is because his role has been so fluid and ever changing.

Yesterday they had East, today the Western conference part
2023 NBA trade deadline: Western Conference deal predictions (espn.com)
From ESPN article:
Trade we would like to see (for Dallas): Terry Rozier, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Jalen McDaniels from Charlotte for Hardaway, Bertans and a 2027 top-10-protected first (will become second-round picks in 2027 and 2029 if not conveyed).

Rozier is taking 20 shots to make 20 ppg. That’s Iverson level inefficiency. I don’t see him as a winning player at all. He’s putting up some stats on a horrible, tanking team. He is in no way a prize and is on a 4 year overpaid contract. The only prizes acceptable on Cha are PJ Wash or McDaniels. If we’re bringing back 1 of those 2 (or both, sure) the trade makes sense IMO.

Oh! I like that a lot! The pick needs to be in 28 though so we can use 3 picks in the offseason.

I have a lot of respect for those guys because doing a pod every single day on the same team is really tough but man...they are just bad at the trade stuff.

That’s really interesting. Agree on the 28 vs. 27 pick. I could actually see a smart team preferring 28 as 27/28 is probably the first post-Luka year if he were to take his super-max, wait a little and then ask out.
In essence this is THJ for Rozier (which I see as reasonable for both teams on-court and financially). It provides the third ball-handler/creator. It is then Bertans/1st for McDaniels and expiring Oubre (I would just as soon move Oubre on in a separate deal for a 2nd).
It is bothersome that McDaniels is UFA. I think he grows up to be DFS some day. But, make no mistake, giving up that pick is probably more about money savings (Bertans for Oubre) than it is acquiring talent. I’d probably pass. If we add McGee and Plumlee and remove Oubre, I might be in.

I was curious on McDaniels free agency status so thanks for that context, makes me somewhat weary of this move. I also agree that I'd be more interested in any trade with Charlotte that includes McGee (I honestly can't decide which contract is worse between him and Bertans).

Explain to me why "trading the 2027/2029 picks vs the 2024/2026 picks is wayyyyyyyyy more risky", It's win now.
The explanation is literally the last sentence of the post you quoted...
And yes, I have been paying attention going back to before Dirk was drafted. Have you though? You're building trades with draft picks we don't even have. Do you know why? Because we completely mortgaged the future for a team that wasn't a contender without the proper assets to reverse course if it went wrong...

I would be very interested in this if it was the 2028 pick with protection that rolls into two seconds.
You'd have to be prepared to give Clarkson a contract on the wrong side of 30 after this season is the only concern.

Personally I am not really much into Clarkson. He is having the best year of his career (buying when his value is highest), plays no defense to speak off and is imho a 6th man on a contending team. I think Mavs have plenty of those types already and I wouldn't pay a FRP for another one.
Let alone a guy, who can just walk in the summer or cost more than THJ after the summer.

All fair points, I would expect if a move like this was ever done it would be with the full intention of extending him to be that 6th man and for us to move Dinwiddie's expiring with our other picks this offseason to find the starter next to Luka and to kill of the Dinwiddie/Clarkson redundancy.
I would also add that someone like Gay would fill a role we couldn't last year which is just some spot minutes on the wing in the playoffs when we really need it (although we may be in a better place this year in that regard).
For the most part though I'm with you. I'm still very much in the camp of hold on to your picks and just shuffle the deck around a little bit until the offseason.

Trading Green would piss me off, too, especially in these "ho hum" type of deals. But, as you tried to tell us before the great Jalen Brunson summer of '22...
BE PREPARED!

So they have PHO and LAL as buyers more desperate than us. MIN and POR IMO should be ahead of us.
