Jesus Christ. The Mavs better learn to draft or recruit free agents if they ever want a second star. We'll never build that type of asset pool.

If Ainge pulls of another Nets-Celtics like trade and gets multiple unprotected 1st round picks from a crash and burn franchse like NY...at least Mitchell isn´t in his mid 30s.

What the Nets picks turned into: Jaylen Brown, Jason Tatum (initially Markel Fultz), Collin Sexton (key piece in Boston´s Irving trade)

Yeah, that is crazy (and about $12.5mm shy of the salary needed).
A couple more trades and Utah will be able to field two teams this season. Two LA teams, Two NY teams and two Salt Lake City teams.

There could be some savings, which then are significant with tax bills.

Yeah, I wonder if we still had a TPE if that would interest PHX? Maybe not to a Western competitor, but I do wonder if that is all it would take.
I don't know if anyone would want Shamet on that salary and Saric after coming off injury. At least get off their salary for nothing. I am sure someone would take Crowder. Even if I was a bad team and had cap room, I would look at Crowder. Might be able to get a first for him at the deadline.

The NBA isn’t valuing future picks, but when it comes draft time, they are the biggest commodity. The Paul George trade really mucked things up from a draft pick value point. That and everyone seeing the potential power all these teams that have lots of draft picks have.

Things will eventually go back the other way and things will settle again in a more reasonable place.

Who trades away any draft participation for the next 5 years? Especially for Donovan Mitchell, who is a good, but not generational, talent. No guarantee he's even an All Star if he goes to NY.
Why would any team give up assets and draft picks for Durant? He's a hell of a player and a likely first ballot HOFer, but he's 34 when next season starts. There have to be some injury concerns. And if things don't go well (because you gutted the team to take him) will he just want out again in a few years?
Personally, I think CHI will find they overpaid big time for Gobert.
OKC can't even use all their picks without dealing/cutting previous FRPs.
Thinks keep going, there's only going to be a half dozen teams actually making picks on draft day. Uncle Adam has to have a concern about this imbalance.

It just means don't trade with Ainge. Murray went for 3 firsts and salary filler. That is the kind of player we will be looking for.

We already had that player. Traded him to New York for 3 first hot airs.

Nah. I personally think this board tends to massively overvalue JB. I might be dead wrong, but I do not see any more ceiling to JB. He is not going to become Nash. He will just be a good NBA player. It seems the Mavs agree with my evaluation. But again time will tell if we are wrong or not.
