I think if they were looking to move him for space though, they would probably need to throw something in. Especially coming off injury.
I believe the Knicks were trying to find takers for Fournier after the draft. And considering he is still there, makes me think they could not get off of him and his salary without surrendering something.
I tried to look around and find someone who might be able to start Fournier (2 years left) or THJ (3 years left). It isn't easy. Well, if no one would want to start them, are they positive values at their numbers? And, if that is true, then a longer version of that (THJ) is probably less valuable than the shorter version of that. I can see Utah taking Rose, but struggle to see them wanting either Fournier or THJ.
Interesting piece of info. As I was looking at Orlando as a landing spot for someone (Fournier or THJ), I noticed the Gary Harris extension is only guaranteed for one year at $13mm (almost an exact match for Fournier). Guess who his agent is? CAA...just like Mitchell and Brunson. I wonder if Utah would rather have Harris for a year with a second NG year or Fournier?
Given past relationships, I wonder if the deal might be THJ to Orlando and Fournier/McBride to Dallas with Dallas giving up protection on 2023?

Easiest deal is actually:
Hardaway to Orlando (Ross and Harris outgoing)
Mitchell to NY (Fournier and Rose and a ton of picks outgoing)
Rose/Ross/Harris...all expiring to Utah (Mitchell and Butler are outgoing)
Fournier and Butler to Dallas (Utah had to move a small contract like Butler if taking in Rose, Ross and Harris)

Dan, why do we do that deal? To get off THJ $ a year sooner? Butler looked ok at times as a rookie but is hardly a prize.

Yeah, That is a bit of a sister kiss.
I think the year shorter may be valuable to the team’s thinking. Fournier gives more secondary creation than Tim and whether Butler or McBride we get a young PG to fill the final roster spot. I don’t hate it, as I like the team building aspect of a bunch of players who expire at the end of 24 and can be part of “the” trade next summer.

Feels like we'd be shuffling deck chairs. Meh.

I think I am in favor bringing Hardaway back. He was not great last year prior to injury, but how he cheered for the team when injured means something to me. Do you think he can be the third wing and get 25-28 minutes a night with DFS and Bullock? If he can, it would open up a third point guard role. It may not be ideal long term, but having Hardaway space the floor with two creators, could be something that gives the offense more juice.

For those keeping track of these things, THJ is in Vegas and was just referring to the Mavs with a lot of "we" talk in an interview. He doesn't sound like a guy who will be traded any time soon.

And I believe Nico was quoted as saying something to the effect that having Tim back was like adding a player. That's the kind of thing you don't say if you think a player is being traded away.

Ok, so we're down to hoping for some sort of exciting return a Powell/Bertans package?
Neat.

That has always been the play. Probably a TDL deal.
Go Mavs!

Barnes probably didn't think he was being traded when that Kings game started either.

And Cato, who espoused this theory on his podcast, pointed out Powell is with the National Team and couldn’t be here. So, Bertans it is.

Except he is from Latvia and so is likely with family in the offseason.

They actually informed him about the trade talks prior to the game. He choose to play.

Most likely. Last time we "saw" him he was with the national team. Nearly two weeks ago.

But the only reason they told him was because a trade was imminent and could be agreed to DURING the game. It is not like they told him weeks in advance.
