Mavs were stupid in creating a situation where he was able to be let go for nothing, but I don't think they're stupid for not paying him like he was a star.
They where beyond stupid to not offer Brunson and DSF a extension on day one when possible.
And stupid to not at least offer the same money than NYK.

I agree that with hindsight they were dumb to not offer Brunson an extension last summer. Although I find it curious you think it would've been such an obvious move given how Brunson was played off the court during that playoff series. But I digress. We've been over the extension and whether or not if it was real at all.
If the pre-FA rumors were to be believed, the Mavs offered Brunson 5yrs/110mil. Which is a little bit more than what he got from NYK total money wise (4/104). If you wanted the Mavs to offer the same exact AAV, then they should've given JB 5/142 mil w/8% max raises (or 5/135 w/5% raises)
Do you think Brunson is worth that? Last 2 years are 30+ mil.

Could have not fully guaranteed the last year.
Players worth something, cost something.
Yes it is hindsight now. But I'm not over it.
And the way they handled that, DFS could have been the same story.

With a rising cap. Maybe (Personally I am leaning yes). Anfernee Simmons signed a similar contract. Fred VanVleet´s extension is even bigger. It feels wrong but good players (not even stars) make 20+ million in the modern NBA. Cap rise and super max deals changed contract structures around the league. On his new contract Brunson will not even rank among the 40 highest paid players in the league. Most likely not even among the top 50.

JB isn’t even making close to star money. He’s making about 50% of what a star makes, at best. It’s a middle class contract in the new economic reality of the NBA. He’s a great value at this price point and at his age.

I guess I just balk at the price. 26 mil for Brunson doesn't sit right with me. Although I was perfectly fine with 22 mil a year, and at that point what's the difference between 4 mil a year there? And there was a good stretch of time I was fine with 5/125.
The thing is the Mavs would've had to do 5/143 to "match" the Knicks contract. Is that not too much still? What if the Knicks threw 4/120? Would y'all hypothetically be okay with 5/170 for JB? Just wondering what the limit is here you're willing to pay for Brunson.

To play devils advocate, Jamal Murray is going to be making $36 in the final year of his contract in a couple years. FVV just signed an extension giving him $30 in the last two years of his deal. Brunson is in the ballpark of those two guys—I think they are both better players. FVV and Murray shoot on more volume from 3 and both, especially Van Vleet, are better defenders/playmakers. But I think if there are any 3 ways Jalen can continue to improve its those exact things (especially playmaking and 3 point volume). Well run teams don’t let players/assets walk for nothing. Denver and Toronto being two of the best run, in my opinion. Well run organizations are a step or two ahead (see SA trading DeJounte). ATL re-upped Huerter and are likely going to do the same soon with Collins. I like the trade for Wood but it was followed by the twin disappointments of losing Brunson and then not signing Dragic (again). Brunson obviously being the bigger blow. Except, this franchise goes as Luka goes. And I would hate to think they are doing anything to make him feel worse about the organization— like letting one of his best buds walk, or not signing Dragic because that “something better!” Is always teased just around the horizon. I just think that, once again, this has been a “bad look” offseason for the Mavs. The aggregate fuck-ups compound. For me at least. Until it’s consistently shown otherwise, the evidence and my instincts are going to see “Mark Cuban: Chaos Agent” as the unchanging variable. Whatever advances we make with Kidd and Nico it seems that is still something that will continually have to be overcome. Doesn’t bode well. But I’d love to be proven wrong. I really wanted to see Luka’s workload decreased. Now we are down a ball handler/creator. Curious to see how they recover.

In the situation the Mavs created the limit would be to match or exceed whatever the Knicks offered. 5/143 mean 28.6 per year over five years. With the right structure that´s not terrible. Would still have him outside the top 40 highest paid players next season.

There are rumours that Real Madrid is offering big money to Campazzo (2.8 euros, comparing this to the Nba is around 8 mil. per season) to return to Madrid.

In other words, he won’t be accepting the minimum to play for any NBA team.

It's not 100%. Once he already accept much lower salary to come in NBA (he was one of the most paid players in europe). And in America is much closer to Argentina and the same goes also for the time zone.

6’5 point guard. Best player in Europe supposedly. Wants to come to the nba. OKC holds his rights and supposedly wants assets for him.
I have been fooled by these European point guards in the past. He is bigger/thicker but is a little heavy legged

Are Nash's days numbered in BRK?

Pretty rough look if his meaning is what people will take away.
But, I suppose it’s possible he meant something more like “my teammates suck, so that’s not going to work.” Just as unprofessional, but less incendiary than the other possible interpretation.
