Even as ugly as their first marriage was, I wonder if there could be a chance for another.
His salary of 8.xxM is much more team-friendly than that monstrosity of Dragic, and makes a trade easy. Reports say MEM doesn't want to keep him, so if you'll take his salary, the price may be attractive.
Carlisle and Rondo butted heads, and RR wore out his welcome in Dallas as a result. Fans were pissed at how he acted. But the roster has completely changed, as well as most of the front office, except for Cuban and Dirk. Kidd and Rondo worked well together in LA, too, which might matter.
I floated this idea a couple of days ago much to my chagrin. Was met with some strong dislike to it.
But I don't see why on paper Rondo wouldn't work. Kidd has had a positive history with Rondo. Rondo is still a fantastic playmaker, defender, and has surprisingly developed a 3pt shot.
I can see Dallas fans still being sour on him, but if we could allow Doug Christie to play a couple of games here all those years ago I think Rondo could make it right.
I still cannot believe I'm saying it but I wouldn't mind seeing Rondo 2. It should be one of the few times a sequel totally surpasses the original.

No thank you. Rondo is a third string PG at best at this point in his career. Even PG-less Clippers basically stopped using him later in the playoffs. Dragic is at least 10 times the player.

We are reaching the rock bottom part of the offseason. Pat Bev was already a bad idea. And now we have reached Rondo level of desperation.

I’d rather bring in Tyson Chandler 3 (knowing we do not need any more bigs on roster) than bring in Rondo.

I was able to obtain a Rondo acquisition internal memo by Haralabos Voulgaris. Pretty sure VintagePeja heard the same thing in one of his poker games...

You missed the part about him quitting on the team during the playoffs and his teammates having no problem excluding him from the extra playoff share. His issues go way deeper than disagreeing with Carlisle.
Rondo is a loser who is about to be let go by a 9th team. I expect Dallas to have a lot more pride than to drunk dial that particular ex.

All for the Milwaukee approach. Spot on
The hard part is over now that we have Giannis(Luka).
The season depends on Porzingis. He needs a Middleton sized contribution to be able to stay. If KP brings it, great, we make one Jrue sized trade with all our picks.
Should KP not show his fit, then his contract becomes the trade to bring in a 2nd star.
The earliest we should make a move is the trade deadline. More likely next offseason. Simmons, Zion, KAT, Ingram are absolutely names to keep an eye on

No I did not miss any of that - in fact, I commented on its relevance when I mentioned that
1 not a single player on this Mavs roster was here when he did any of that
2 nor coach, as far as I can tell
3 and much of the front office
But, I noted Cuban is here, and Dirk in an advisory capacity, and they will probably have ideas as far as whether the benefit is worth the trouble.
I do agree the question of whether that bridge has been burnt is meaningful, and that it's possible they might not go farther than that, before they begin to weigh why they think he wasn't useful for LAC in the playoffs, after being VERY good for them in the regular season.
One other factor does come into the equation, and that's availability intertwined with price. If Dragic is priced out of consideration, then the idea of preferring Dragic becomes irrelevant. Whether that's the case or not, we don't really know, but is Rondo at least better than nothing. I dunno, but I gotta think it's possible.

Dragic is an expiring. Who cares what he's paid, it's not like it hampers us in the future one bit. And he's way better than Rondo at this point with previous chemistry playing with Luka to boot
Bringing Rondo back would be even worse than when we signed VAJ

Have no idea what the poll numbers would be on bringing in Rondo but I'd guess those in favor would be a single digit number. It would have to be peak-Rondo for him to be any sort of desirable. Today's Rondo is neither useful nor desirable. We can probably stop digging up this particular pony for pounding purposes. It's deceased.

This, all day & everyday. If DAL can secure Markanen with the TPE and some pick nonsense, I believe the road to Dragic has already been paved. That deal goes down and I full expect Dragic to DAL for DP and stuff(whatever 1-2 of Brown, Green and Terry they require). At that point, this offseason becomes incredibly interesting and has the potential to get DAL up a notch, ie in the mix for conference finals.

He wasn't a rookie.... So it wasn't inexperience or immaturity..
He's done stuff like that before... So there's a pattern.
I don't care who "was" here or"wasn't" here, like his character flaws were their fault. He completely quit. Probably, we should ask "do we question the character of the people who decided unanimously to leave him out?". I know at least one I don't question.
Look, lack of character isn't everyone's else's fault, but it becomes everyone else's problem... So no, not one of those lame justifications to figuratively sell our souls to the Devil to bring that cancer in here is worth it.
There aren't enough words in the dictionary or enough combinations of those words to convince me to bring Rondo back here.
"Hey, our star insinuates that a big important thing is chemistry, and we suspect we may some problems there already, so here's a plan... Get an over the hill moron cancer to come here, contribute pretty much jack nothing athletically and ruin the locker room even more because he won't keep his mouth shut. Yeah that will keep Luka and win us a ring..."
Dude.... Slap yourself and wake out of whatever zombie trance you are in, bro. Come back to us.

Overanalysis is this thing smart people do to talk themselves into dumb things. Let me help.
1. Rondo won’t be great.
2. He might be ok.
3. He might be a cancer (again) that undermines everything we’re trying to accomplish.
Should we bring him in?

I personally don't see this as a "Rondo or nothing" situation at all. If anything, I'd be really disappointed if Dallas cut a young prospect just to make room for a known chemistry killer who is about to be on his 9th team in 8 years.

I'm not sold on Rondo either ...but I'm not convinced that Dragic is as "easy" an option as many of us want to think. "Get him anyway, at any price" is an absurd approach -- not to mention that the Mavs won't see it that way, even if some of you do.
Price isn't solely about contract. It's also about what assets you will have to give up, what you will have to include to salary-match (and matching 19.44M will take several players, some of whom you might need and who will then leave a hole in your rotation, for a 35-year-old backup PG on the downside of his career). The Mavs stance is he's worth having, but not worth the cost of salary-matching.
We want Dragic, if he's reasonably priced or better. I get that, and agree. But if for practical purposes that's a dead end, then what? Just do without?
