I have really enjoyed the Melli experience so far. Will he be more than a deep rotation piece in the long run...time will tell. He has already surpassed my expectations. It doesn't take much basketball knowledge to see he knows how to play. How he moves, how he appears to already understand the offensive and defensive sets better than some who have been here all year long, how he sets picks, how he puts his body on people. etc. He is just a smart player.
I loved how he took pride in guarding Bertans last night too. Bertans hit a three or 2 on him and you could see Melli was really upset. But besides that, he really gave Bertans very limited looks. Just a smart player.
It will be interesting if Westbrook is ever on a good team again. Or more importantly can he take a step back and fit in on a good team. How he is playing now, I don't think that is a fit on a good team. Way too much Westbrook. Now, that team last night didn't have much, but it looks similar even when they have a full team. Would he rather lose and be Westbrook or will he accept a bench role on a good team? It may be moot because with that salary, it would take a lot for a team to trade for him.
