If this is true, it's an interesting development. The Bucks have no way to offer him more than the taxpayer MLE ($5.xM). That means he's in play to someone.
Isn't he competing for the same openings and money as Holmes? Are there enough teams with that sort of money (or more) for a center, or not?
Maybe Portis isn't gonna get 15M, but isn't he worth at least a full MLE (which is 4 yrs $42M)? Neither Holmes nor Portis can be acquired via sign-and-trade, which limits the competition considerably, when you get past the MLE.
If you took the least expensive of the two, what would that cost? If you could get rid of Powell, isn't either of them a significant upgrade?
