I doubt it. Cuban simply does not believe in the draft. The history is well-documented (no need for details), so for him a 34th and 40th pick from New Orleans (for example) versus paying Carlisle another 1-2 months (~$1M) is just an easy decision.
Of course I have no idea how it plays out contractually, if in two months Carlisle hasn´t found another job and all the coaching vacancies are filled. Suddenly Carlisle wants to return to the Mavs and get paid, cause Cuban hasn´t accepted his resignation.
I doubt teams would not invite Carlisle for interviews over a 2nd round pick hassle, and call Scott Skiles instead.
