Forde is credited with three POBO/GM searches in the Ringer article. The article says his process takes about a month. Here are the time frames for each credited search.
SAC 1 Month: McNair (Rose through the ranks to Asst. GM under Morey)
NO 2 Months: Griffin (Was GM in Cleveland)
WASH 3.5 Months: Sheppard (Internal Hire)

I've updated a post from yesterday on the duration of the search to focus more on where the hires came from. Sheppard was an internal hire (like Finley would be). Interestingly, Washington has since hired Rod Thorn to be Special Advisor To The GM.
POBO Griffin added Trajan Langdon as GM about a month after he was hired. Before that, Langdon was assistant GM in Brooklyn
In Sacramento GM McNair brought in some experienced hands to help (plus Joe Dumars stayed on as Chief Strategy Officer). Wes Wilcox came in as Asst. GM. He actually had a short stint as GM in Atlanta. Phil Jabour came in as VP of Player Personnel. Before that he had been Director of Scouting in Philly.
If Stein is right and it is Finley, then expect to see some old hand involved in some way to help him get going and some promotions from other teams thought to be good at scouting or pro-personnel or analytics or something. An infusion of outside perspective.
