Brunson`s development really suprised me. When he was drafted I thought of him as an old school / traditional PG. Playmaking combined with some midrange scoring. Solid player and already better than DSJ but with limiited upside.
Turns out that I was wrong. He is more of a score first, undersized SG. Not the best decision making. Not the best playmaker/passer. Best comparisations would be Lou Williams, CJ McCollum or Eric Gordon. Starter quality but at his best in a 6th man role. Question is if he would be happy in a Jason Terry like role.
That´s why I still think that the Mavs need to add another ballhandler. Richardson is not the solution. He has a nice midrange pull up game but that´s it.
My favorite option: Lonzo Ball
He would be the classic floor general/distributor that can run the offense when Luka is on the bench but also has the necessary 3&D (40%/ 8 3PA) skills to play next to him.
I would argue that he has been the Pelicans best player this season. On/off numbers are really telling the story. Lonzo (+7.8) and Adams (+5). Rest of the team +/- 0 or worse.
Problem is that the his trade value might be at an all time high. According to the latest rumors the Pelicans would prefer to trade Bledsoe or Redick (who wouldn´t). Looks like ball played himself of the trading block.
