I like to think of it this way. Dallas is a better team now than it was to end the season. So that's a win. But beyond that: You know how Milwaukee went all-in on keeping Giannis? Dallas (and Miami) went all-in on attracting him. Now Giannis gets to choose.

The difference is the downside. If Giannis chooses to stay in Milwaukee, Dallas's options are wide open for other ways to improve the team. And I have no doubt that other good players will be more than happy to come play with Luka. But if Giannis chooses Dallas, Milwaukee is completely hosed for the foreseeable future.

So enjoy the present and be optimistic for the future. Dallas has a high floor and almost no ceiling right now!

I think this years results matter for Giannis. Meaning that further additions that improve the record are helpful. I don´t think a guy on a multi year MLE contract is unmoveable. Even if the Mavs need to clear a little bit more capspace they can easily do it. Getting rid of Jackson and Wright was a lot easier than some of us thought.

What is more interesting for Giannis? A 60+ win team in Milwaukee, A team that just made the NBA finals or Luka, KP and max capspace? Difficult to tell but it wouldn´t hurt if the Mavs would also win 50 games and/or at least reach the 2nd round in the playoffs.
