Let me play along. It seems that some of the MLE guys would prefer a multi year deal.
@"DanSchwartzman" could the Mavs create the necessary capspace if they sign a guy like Crowder for 3/20. Make no further moves and waive Powell if he isn´t able to bounce back from his injury.
Yes, but probably not. If you follow the logic of my post above, the opt-in and extend gets Dallas really close to the number if Powell is traded and Giannis is a S&T. We don't know exact numbers on the cap, Terry or Burke yet which is why I say close.
To get the extra $6mm for Crowder you have to move on from another $6mm. Is that Maxi? How about DFS plus Green? In other words, I think the cost of who you would lose if GA says yes isn't worth the benefit you'd get from Crowder.
EDIT:
I want to change my answer. I'm focused on staying where we are regarding max space at about $33.6mm. We are there now. Crowder at $6.6mm could be done on a multi year and the S/W for Powell happens to also be $6.6mm in savings. So in terms of pure cap room in 21 it would be a wash (all this assumes Crowder will agree to the 3/$20). So, yes, there is a path to Crowder 3/$20 while retaining cap room for GA.
The JRich extension strategy becomes more challenging in that you have to S/W Powell AND give up some salary for someone you presumably like. Not impossible though.
