@"Mavs2019" I'm not disagreeing with your logic or your assessment of any particular player. And I certainly won't stick up for much of what the front office did between 2011 and 2019. However, it's not like they KNEW they were going to be able to draft Luka Doncic, or that he'd be this good, this soon.
That's all I'm saying: that high priced role players don't make sense until you KNOW what you're building around.
I see what you're saying, but disagree.
Here, Giannis's role on offense would basically be an augmented, 'roided up version of Powell's role. That means that most of the time, KP would be standing on the perimeter to create space. You'd love that, but you don't really need a max-level talent to play that role. Kleber could do it just fine, for example.
On defense, Giannis is absolutely a better presence than KP, who does some things really well, but just isn't the kind of swiss army knife on that end that Giannis is. While I think Giannis is one of the few bigs in the league who could play WITH KP, I'm far from the thinking that having two bigs would be necessary.
If Giannis is here with KP, I think they both start and play together often, but really, what you've got at that point is the ability to play different types of lineups effectively. You can also get there by starting Giannis at the 5 and having him play two big stretches with someone off the bench.
