I've been catching up on the posts from the last 24hrs. and I have a couple of questions...
As someone posted earlier, is there any concern about Luka and his ex-coach undermining Kidd? Would KP feel like he's getting ignored (again) with bringing Kokosov in as the "Luka Whisperer"?
Who can be the "KP Whisperer" since he, to my perception, doesn't form many close relationships?
I see the speculation around Noel. Is there any reason to think he's moved beyond his hot dog eating behavior? Do we really think he can be a contributor on a successful team?

RC has a decade (10 years!) straight of 1st round exits or missing the playoffs. How many coaches have that kind of run with a single team?
Was he failed by his GM and owner, or is he just a mediocre coach whose image was inflated by a single great run? Time will shed some light on this. Time in IND will be HUGE...but I think what DAL does next will be HUGE. I would argue both will impact his long term legacy for serious fans.

I don't know how you could argue that the drought was not almost entirely a failure of GM/Cuban. They never had the talent to compete in the playoffs, and the one year they did they traded it for Rondo.
Luka is so good that he just needs a fairly small boost in roster talent (something GM/Cuban failed to do the last two years) to win a playoff series. If anything, I think this off season and the resulting performance will have more impact on Nelson legacy than Rick's.

It will be interesting to see if the Mavs go back to that if they keep him.
I think we are saying different things. I would have Noel playing the 4 on defense. If we think KP does not have the mobility to play center on defense, I don't think its going to help to put him on the perimeter.

I just have never been very taken with the coaching of RC. I think he is a decent to good coach, but I feel like he has underperformed massively at times as well, especially at player relations.
I get that others have differing opinions and I respect that. I just have never thought he was the "top 5" coach that so many asserted for years. But maybe I will be proved wrong and he will do wonders in IND.

That's fine, but my assessment is more based on the dearth of talent in this organization since 2011 than Rick's effectiveness as a coach. I just don't think he has had very much to work with.

After his dumbass comments on Ohtani, Smith shouldn't be given any platform.

Right and most years (and one can see that if they were to ever look back through the years) I have thought RC underperformed with the talent he was given in DAL. I have most years thought that the roster RC was handed was pretty good.
One example was the 2012 team, I thought that team was AS talented as the championship team and the outcome was a disaster (8.5 wins less than Vegas over-under).
Here are where RC's teams performed compared to the Vegas over-under post championship...
2012: -8.5 wins
2013: -3.5 wins
2014: +5.5 wins
2015: +0.5 wins
2016: +5.5 wins
2017: -6.5 wins
2018: -11.5 wins
2019: -2.5 wins
2020: +2.5 wins
2021: -0.5 wins
According to this measure 2014 and 2016 were his only really good coaching jobs in a ten year span. Note that this is according to how good Vegas thought those rosters SHOULD perform.

That's a good argument, but on the other hand, the national media narrative has consistently been that Carlisle's teams overperform his rosters post-2012. With the exception of the three deliberate tank years, of course.

I think RC is a top coach in the NBA. As a human being, I've seen him be an ass to people. Think he gets a lot out of the talent that he has to coach. We'll see the difference when we see the Kidd coached team. Someone will need to be the Xs and Os guy. Remember Avery? Motivation only goes so far. You need a Del Harris around who knows what he's doing. Kidd better have that guy waiting in the wings, whispering in his ear. Takes a lot of pressure off of a head coach. I think RC had guys whispering in HIS ear, but they weren't whispering the basics.

I agree that we will see soon enough. That's been my main drum beat through everything: "Time will tell."

Everything sounds like a plan. Then there's the actual. Kidd's coaching record, I don't view as inspiring, but...maybe, someday, he's as good of an NBA coach as Rick. Right now? I doubt he's anywhere close. Luka will make him look better than he is as long as they get along.

If Dallas is able to acquire John Collins in a sign and trade (Kleber), would you rather resign THJ or go after a Norman Powell who is a better shooter and defender? Maybe we could do a sign and trade of THJ to his preferred destination and acquire assets to fill out the roster. I love the starting 5.
Starters:
Luka
N. Powell
DFS
Collins
KP
Bench:
Brunson
Terry
Green
D. Powell
