What a coup that would be.
I watched THT last night. Mainly 4th quarter and OT. Sheesh. What a game. His impact was everywhere. Culminated in hitting the 3 that put them ahead with 30 seconds left.
I don't know what I'd throw at THT because I really don't think he's worth more than 12 mil a year, but having him instead of JRich would be amazing.

He's averaging 9 points, 3 rebounds 3 assists, 1 steal in 20 minutes per game for the season. He's shooting 46% from the field and 79% from the FT line for the year. He's only shooting 27% from 3, although that percentage has actually improved. Over the past month, he's shot 31% from 3. His stroke is good. I believe that percentage could get into the mid 30s with more playing time.
I would present an offer sheet that would make it uncomfortable for the Lakers. They already have $120 million committed in team salary for next year and that's not even including Dennis Schroeder who is an unrestricted free agent. If we get THT, he would replace J-Rich in the starting lineup.
And can tie his shoes without bending over

I guess it's worth trying? I don't see him getting a max deal or any deal that's big enough that the Lakers wouldn't match. Playing the RFA game is tough. If they could get J Rich in an opt-in trade without triggering a hard cap it would be something to consider I guess.

Let me guess. You're a fan of the Mavs draft selections. If Josh Green was averaging 9 points 3 rebounds 3 assists 1 steal, you would throw a parade. I'm not offering the max for THT. But the kid is only 20. Same age as Green and Terry.

Pretty sure he was referring to his wingspan, which is a compliment.

His max is 20m per. I think 15m per gets it done. That's still a hefty gamble if his 3PT shooting doesn't come around. I think we've seen enough to know he'll be a great defender, can handle the ball, can get to the rim and finish through contact, has good court vision and is a willing passer. I think he just fits no matter what the team composition is and with the work that Mavs coaches have done with Jalen, DFS and Maxi, I think they can improve his outside shooting. His form doesn't look broken.

Are you at all worried about him eating his way out of some the handling/finishing skills you mention?

Hey, no argument on that score, but at least we know Luka is worth the money (and then some) if he can cut out some of the cheetos.

Luka "double queso" Doncic
I love the THT and/or Holmes idea. We are deploying then Harrison Barnes/Chandler Parsons strategy but with much better timing and circumstances since we aren't looking to make the 4th-6th best player our franchised savior but instead bumping them up to the 3rd-4th spots on the roster.

It's just not going to happen. I don't think any team is going to give him 15/yr and if they do it won't be the Mavs and I don't see Lakers motivation to not retain him. Your only shot would probably be a J Rich trade if it doesn't trigger a hard cap for the Lakers.

I don't think THT will happen. Rich Paul guy already on the Lakers and the Lakers will not be able to replace him through FA if he goes away. They also can basically print money. So the idea that the Msvs who struggle getting FA's are going to pry away a young Rich Paul RFA from the Lakers is just silly. They could probably try if they want to at least drive up the price.
I think THJ is pretty much a lock to stay so the next decision is whether or not to operate over or under the cap. If the Mavs get far enough that they get a signature on an RFA sheet then that forces their hand (I believe) to operate under the cap. That may not be a bad thing. It really just depends on whether or not they can get a better player with cap space than they could get with MLE + J Rich or a J Rich equivalent.

I am really stuck on this Brunson for Mitchell Robinson idea lately bc it makes too much sense. Similar contract situation. Knicks are already hovering Brunson like sharks. MR is a luxury for them really and they have found success without him.
For the Mavs I feel like MR fits Rick's archetype of the 5 he wants in his system (and what Luka needs). MR would also make KP more disposable though I think they could try to play them together. My impression of MR is that he's a better defender than both WCS and Powell and offensively as good or better than Powell with that super high FG%. Mavs would likely keep Powell on the bench but WCS' services would no longer be needed.
If KP did go away for say a playmaking guard or wing then you already have your starting frontcourt which is probably Maxi or DFS starting next to MR.
As much as I like Brunson I think he is replaceable. I could see Mavs for example throwing some money at Dinwiddie to make him your 6th man. I like that Dinwiddie can score, pass and get to the FT line even if he isn't the most efficient shooter.
As mentioned KP might get moved at some point in the future in which case you are trying to get an upgrade at guard or wing positions but don't really need to do much with the frontcourt at all if you have MR, Maxi, Powell in place.

I know the Mavs probably prefer a win now player but is there a team that would just absorb KPs contract without any big salary going back to the Mavs.
For example the Spurs. Let´s say. Vassell and the Spurs 1st for KP.

Not bad, imo. I'm a big Vassell fan. Between Green, Vassell, DFS and Kleber, they'd have quite a few versatile, long defenders to throw at teams in a year or two.

OK, now that that’s out of the way, I value JB much more than I do MR. His pedigree as a second rounder gets in the way. If we called him Mystery PG X and showed his numbers (especially per 36), people would go nuts to add that type of guy. JB is also a dream from a character standpoint and I think Robinson has some issues that make him less than ideal. Setting all of that aside, I do fear NY is going to come hard after Brunson.
Robinson IS in the contract situation I erroneously tried to paint regarding Brunson. NY CAN make him restricted this offseason. If they don’t, he’ll be UFA in 22. So, if he’s RFA, it forces us to work under the cap for a S&T with NY as his raise will be substantial. If he continues to play under his rookie scale this season, then he’s UFA in 22 and we’ve got just as much risk of losing him for nothing. Plus, isn’t center the easier position to fill cheaply? Since you keep posting this idea to little response, I thought I’d give one. I’m not a fan for on-court, off-court and financial reasons.
