At what point, if ever, has Marc J Spears known anything internal about what the Mavs are doing?
It's basically Townsend/Stein and no one else that accurately reports the Mavs thoughts. Cato sometimes has good guesses. Fish is a big rumor mill. But Spears? This national guy that has zero connections to the inner circle of the Mavs is now breaking this? Gimmie a break.

Sometimes trading for the voice of the guy in the locker room has a bigger impact than the guy on the court. Disregarding the amazing fit (and proven success) of a Dragic/Doncic back court. And how Dragic is averaging a very solid 14/3/5 on 44/36/80.

Just posting the latest rumors. Further, it takes more than one team to do a trade so you don't need to be in the Mavs inner circle to get a scoop.

-He is damned near 35.
-Since his next year is a team option, he could very well be a free agent.
-We aren't a contender and Dragic isn't going to move that needle this season.
-You don't give up your best asset given the above three facts.
-I also don't see why the Heat would make that move while they are in the playoff hunt and a year removed from the finals.
I get that everyone wants to make moves but we need to be smart with asset management. I think you look at bad contracts league wide and then use a combo of our expiring players to try and get assets.

So? If he's producing he's producing. The only players over 30 on this roster are Boban and Johnson. Experience is needed if the team wants to take a jump.

I see that team option as a way the Mavs retain a starter/secondary playmaker without having to try and win his services in the summer. A skill Donnie is notoriously bad at.

Dragic might not move the needle this season but he could be extremely valuable next season. And regardless Dragic would help fix a LOT of this teams issues. Spacing? Yes. Reliable playmaking? Yes. Vet leadership and playoff experience? Yes.

I think Brunson is a bit expensive for Dragic, and it wouldn't be my first choice in a deal for him. But if the Mavs did that tomorrow I wouldn't be mad. Especially if Brunson could net us an additional player and/or pick like Iggy or Olynyk.

And I agree with you. I doubt heavily the Heat would trade Dragic in any case. BUT if he was available I'd be all for him.

You don't take a young, valuable asset and flip it for someone who most likely isn't going to be in the league when this team is ready to compete especially when your team is razor thin on assets and there is a good chance you could sign him outright in the offseason. I like Dragic. I'd love to have him here but I'm not going to give up anything of value for a team that's going to struggle to make the playoffs with or without him.

Now you know why I throw tantrums, when Mavs draft Satnam Singh. As the greatest show on television told us all the pieces matter. I don't know what will happen, but there is no way Carlisle,Donnie and Porzingis will survive this offseason. One will be the fall guy for this decade long mess, especially once our overrated egomaniacal owner gets his media attention as Dolan West and looks to shift blame. We are getting there.

Maybe KP but doubtful. Carlisle and Donnie aren't getting canned until Luka leaves.

LMAO at the Brunson for old man Dragic trade idea, especially touting the greatness of Dragic’s shooting splits: 44/36/80. Brunson has that beat by a mile (52/42/88) and he’s still improving. That just sounds like the ravings of someone who wants an all Euro team. I can see it now. Dragic, Luka, KP, and Maxi in the starting lineup. Just one more and you have the dream. Those guys would get absolutely smoked, even with Luka.
Just say no to Dragic and move KP for some guys with toughness and athleticism who rebound, defend, and play a hard nosed American brand of ball.

I would be okay with Dragic for the right price, like Johnson+JRich maybe, but giving up Brunson for him would be madness.

Does he have anything internal regarding the rest of the league either?
Spears articles and insight always felt about race and SJW stuff (good for him) and not real NBA talk, and he barely breaks any news.
Seems to me it is like Brian Windhorst type of rumors , add some guessing/opinion to rumors and make it a news.

RE: Marc Spears
He is not going to be the mouthpiece for the Mavs, but for other teams and agents. But he definitely has legit sources in the NBA world, regardless of what you think about him.

I would like to be corrected here, but what news did he ever broke that proves he is really connected?

At least other fans are still interested in him, but can we see the other side of the equation.

I hear you can get a top shot moment of KP for $450. How many Kembas would that bring?

So the majority opinion is that Luka and the Mavs need a 2nd creator or veteran PG to help this team. But giving up Brunson in the trade is not a good Idea. Some would not like that player to be another euro, so Dragic, Rubio and Satoransky are out. Salary wise I would rule out trading for Wall, Lowry and Holiday (not available anyway). Also, Dinwiddie is injured this season so he's out for a trade. And Rose was just traded to NYK so he's not available.
So here is a short list of guards that might be available this season in a trade - Ball, Rozier, or George Hill.
JRich + Rooky + pick might get us Ball. But Ball still needs to grow himself as a player and then there is that Dad thing.
Rozier is averaging 15 shoots a game, would we still need THJ? But JRich + WCS or Burke + Pick might get it done.
Last would you swap JRich for Hill, probable not, only played 14 games this year and is 34?
So Is there anyone else out there available in a trade this TDL that could help as a 2nd creator or PG?
