Is Aaron Gordon an after thought now? His latest injury bad? Orlando asking too much?
Can you not flip one of those three for a FRP...then you have the 2 firsts Orlando was supposedly asking months ago. Or was 2 FRP plus assets always too much for Gordon?

Yeah, at the point where the Mavs are along the great team trajectory, adding LaVine is something you couldn’t pass up.

I've said his name before, but I'm very intrigued with John Collins from Atlanta. He's averaging 19 points 8 rebounds 2 assists 1 block a game. He's shooting a sizzling 56% from the field, 41% from 3 point land, 84% from the FT line. He's only 23 years old. And apparently, he loves playing against Dallas. He averaged 34 points and 10 rebounds in his 2 games this year versus Dallas.
Here's the dilemma for Atlanta. He's a restricted free agent this summer. Him and Trae have had their differences on/off the court. Atlanta drafted Okongwu in this year's draft presumably to replace Collins. Atlanta already has 100 million committed to players in 2021-2022. Essentially, only 12 million in salary cap space. I'm not sure why they wasted money on Bogdanovic and Gallinari. Bogdanovic will be 29 and Gallinari will be 33 this summer. Are they worth a combined 38 million dollars? Heck no.
If you're Dallas, why not offer Collins a contract where it would be difficult for Atlanta to match? Maybe 4 years 80 million...something along those lines. I'm assuming Atlanta will pay Trae the max in the summer of 2022. Atlanta at that point would be in luxury tax category if they pay Collins a lucrative deal.
Starting lineup:
Luka
J-Rich (either he opts in or we resign him to a new deal)
DFS
Collins
KP
Brunson
Burke
Green
Kleber
Powell/WCS
I would love to resign THJ as our 6th man, but I'm not sure if that's possible to squeeze all that in to the salary cap. I'd go to war with that team. A mix of offense and defense in that starting lineup. A decent bench as well.

Collins is great but I simply don't believe Atlanta will let him walk. They'll find a team to dump Gallinari on this summer and then sign him to a max.

That's why Atlanta is stupid. Paying Gallinari 3 years 60 million is an absolute joke. Total waste. You have a 23 year old in Collins who is a restricted free agent this summer and you waste 38 million/year in Gallinari and Bogdanovic for the next 3-4 years?
One side note: Collin's agent is Jeff Schwartz. He represents Harrison Barnes, Dwight Powell, DeAndre Jordan and Boban (Two current Mavs players and two former Mavs players). My understanding is that Schwartz and the Mavs have a good working relationship.

Oh it was absolutely dumb but there are enough teams with cap space this offseason and not enough good players so there will be a taker for Gallinari, the only question is how much Atlanta would have to sweeten the deal.
Anyway one more KP for LaVine trade for the night:

We have no room to talk. We basically signed bigger and slower Gallinari to a max deal. Both are one way players

I hope it’s not us.
It will be interesting because after they dump Gallinari and sign Collins to the max (27-30 mil.), they will still be close to $110 mil. committed in ‘22 for 9 roster spots. And that’s assuming they take nothing back in the Gallinari trade. And a Trae max the following year. And a red headed 2nd year player that torched us tonight. And an injured De’Andre Hunter who their board feels is a legimitate #3 possibility behind Trae and Capella.

I might do a Johnson for Gallinari swap if Atlanta gave us a pick.

Mavs get LaVine and WCJ... worth it for KP and Brunson? I don't think the Pels need to be in this trade and I think I proposed a deal akin to this during the offseason when the rumors came out that Chi was looking to trade WCJ. At that same time I proposed KP and filler for Oladipo and Turner.

Picks and young guys makes sense for them, the Pelicans have them(and they're a fit for KP).

Atlanta has 100 mil committed to 11 players in 2021. Add Collins at 27 and they are still comfortably under the tax. Gallo last year is not guaranteed. So he comes off the books in 2022 when Young max extension kicks in. Since Rondo and Dunn are off the books than too, Atlanta is still comfortably under the tax.
I will just repeat. Collins will certainly get a max offer (unless everyone is sure Atlanta will match anything, so no one will even bother). If Atlanta is not willing to pay the max, they are trading him this TDL. I bet Atlanta takes the gamble, hopes they can resign him for less, but if not, they will pay him max. They can always trade him.
