Not a big fan of giving up Terry for a 3 month rental
The reason the mavs don't have access is because they keep getting themselves involved in 1 sided trades that typically require us getting little in return.

How do y'all feel about this trade?
Dallas Receives
Lonzo Ball
JJ Reddick
Sign Rondae Hollis Jefferson
Resign JJ Barea
New Orleans Receives
James Johnson
Josh Green
Wes Iwundu
2025 top 20 protected 1st
Lonzo and Reddick are expiring and Lonzo is not going to resign in New Orleans. The Mavs would get his Bird rights.

I don't envision Porter staying in Chicago.
Would Chicago do Johnson, Powell and Terry for Porter? Johnson is an expiring. Powell is essentially a locker room guy and salary cap filler. Terry is a young asset.
Very unlikely. I´d also have zero interest in an Porter extension, but getting rid of Powell is the prize and since Terry will never get any minutes here, I´d obviously do that deal.

Both are good stretch 4's, hovering around 35-36%.
Could go either way. I'd take KP if I had the choice, but in my dream scenario we'd keep both Maxi/KP and just add Turner. THAT is a PF/C rotation right there.
GM's don't seem to like Turner for some reason.

Am I losing my mind or would John Wall make sense as a trade target for Dallas? His defense and 3pt shot have been solid so far. His contract is ugly, but there are only 2 years remaining after this season and Dallas could potentially get a draft pick out of it as well.
We know how desperately the Mavs need another player who can create off the dribble. They are scoring 115.3 pts/100 with Luka on the floor and only 104pts/100 with him off. Wall could start next to Luka and stagger their minutes so one of the two is always on the court.
The trade package might be something like Johnson/Richardson/Powell for Wall/protected 1st.

That is a good idea, didn't think of it. I don't think there is any chance we would get a pick out of it. Problem is, the only way we can match salaries is to trade Johnson and THJ. Then I am not sure anymore if we really are better, taking into account opportunity cost. If the trade could center on Johnson and Powell salaries, then I would be all over it.

Maybe a 1st is too much, but there has to be some compensation for eating that contract. Then again, we would be sending back Powell...
I wouldn't include THJ. His shooting is too important. I don't mind sending Richardson though because Wall would take his minutes anyway.

Those play-type stats are very illuminating. The roll man stats point directly to Powell it would seem. He was an elite finisher and while he may have fallen off this year his PT is way down. I’m sure there are stats for this but the eye test says WCS and KP have not been nearly as good as prime Powell.
The other issue has been clearly noted. This team’s shooters have been below average in spot up situations.

Not really interested in Beverly or Williams, but here is a trade I would consider with Clippers:
Clippers:Johnson+Brunson
Dallas: Beverly+Zubac
Clippers get rid of Beverly contract for a younger and better PG. You can never have enough big wings (Johnson). They can also have one of our many centers if they want (WCS, Bobi). Dallas gets a great young rim running center on a cost controlled contract to play with or without KP and another defensive specialist who might become our vet defensive leader. His contract might be useful for a trade next season. Mavs would still lack secondary creator though.

Lowry is a winner, that's for sure. He would cover a lot of holes Mavs have like secondary creation, defensive leader, vet leader. But, he is also 34 and his contract is at 30 mil, which makes trade for him difficult. He might also leave in offseason. I doubt Toronto would want to have anything to do with Powell (or other non expiring contract). Would you do Johnson+THJ+Brunson for Lowry and Powell?

Love Lowry but we need THJ's shooting too. Tough to salary match.

Lonzo Ball would make this team better. Not “championship better,” but I think he would be a significant upgrade over DFS.

Considering that Toronto is apparently interested in Drummond, I think they're also hurting for a big man.
I've started to come around THJ. I know he's streaky as all hell, but he's shown to be a valued locker room guy and he seems okay with coming off the bench.
Lowry's salary is certainly tricky to match, but the Mavs theoretically can get it done for Johnson+WCS+Brunson+Burke
Seems like a bunch of spare parts, but if we added draft compensation, the Mavs are essentially swapping Johnsons/WCS expiring salaries with Lowry's, and giving Toronto a good young PG on a rookie deal in Brunson.
That's not that bad of package for an almost 35 year old all-star PG that's expiring himself.

I REALLY like Lowry. He's a winner. Dude just makes heady basketball plays and does everything he can to win. He's a good defensive guard as well and doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective. He's basically a toned down version (contract and player wise) of CP3, who I wanted the Mavs to get as well.
We need some vet leadership and I think Lowry could establish a great culture and locker room here and can be had for a relatively cheap price.

If the Clippers gift us Zubac for taking Bev's contract and only want Brunson in exchange (I don't really consider Johnson as essential) you make that deal 1200000x over.
Bev is a one dimensional guy, but he'd replace Johnson as our "enforcer". He's limited but as long as he can hit a 3 he'd be valued here.
Zubac would be the real prize as he'd basically push WCS all the way to the end of the bench. Only hiccup is if he could fit with KP.

Yeah, but Toronto would have to cut three guys to make this trade work. I guess you would have to include more teams. If Toronto is after Drummond you could perhaps make a three team deal as Cleveland doesn't really need Lowry.
