Still in shock over this.
Went from hating him
To respecting him for respecting Dirk
To actually liking him for his drive and commitment to excellence in everything he did
He won an Oscar for Pete's sake
I remember when Kennedy died
When John Lennon died
But today for the first time
For a celebrity I cried
Hug your loved ones
And be grateful for every breath you take.

Was in shock when i heard this. I lost a friend that was like a brother to me just last week. And then this.
I legit lost two legends in a week.
I've been reminded twice in the past 9 days how short life is and how meaningless everything around you is - besides Love. And that Love entails family, friends, and faith. Life is but a vapor in the wind.
Everything in the world at his tips, gone too young; and now like the rest. Back to the dust.
RIP Legend. RIP GG. Death Sucks, but life after death is a treasure everyone should strive for.

No good deed goes uncriticized
Look I’m broken up about all this. I wasn’t Kobe’s fan, though he was someone I watched during my childhood. I have spent hours today watching the news about this tragic event. Feeling numb and tearing up as I watched. I respect Cuban for feeling what I’m feeling right now but to announce something like he announced today almost seems like he is trying to one up the other twitter posts that were posted today. Maybe he isn’t idk. I do know it was unnecessary to announce it today. Maybe tomorrow but not today. Also, the number #24 should have been in the rafters years ago. I thought it was an odd move, myself. Not just announcing it so soon, but doing it at all. If Kobe were still alive, and the Mavs had retired his number, I seriously question whether Kobe would have wanted any part of that. There is just something that seems a bit presumptuous about a team retiring the number of a guy who never played for them.
I suppose one could view this as a look-at-me action by Cuban, but I think it was well-intended. I also acknowledge that this is a matter on which reasonable people could disagree, and I'm not losing sleep over it or anything. I was shocked to hear the terrible news about Kobe and his daughter, and ask blessings for his family, friends, colleagues, and fans.

Jerry West is such a classy, unbelievably gracious man.

I guess Mark Cuban wanting to honor Kobe makes sense considering the Dallas Mavericks organization's reputation for the way they treat women. I guess that whole rape thing bothers me more than most.

When I first saw the tweet, I thought, 23 was and has been the only # that should have that distinction (if any non-team player should). If we aren't doing it for him, I don't see the reason to do it for Kobe. Just my thought. I don't like that this tragic event happened, and I liked him as a player enough (esp after coming to the defense of Dirk to extol his greatness), I hope he RIP, but to me, this is odd as well.

There is a time and place for that discussion, I'm just not going to kick that dirt up on the heels of his passing.

This is sadly one of these rare instances, which you will alyways remember where you were when you first heard the news. This is simply devastating for any Basketball fan, no matter your favorite team.
Witnessing the shell-shocked reactions of players and coaches around yesterday's games, let alone the reactions worldwide, it honestly doesn't feel dissimilar to 9/11.
Simply hard to process.

Been seeing these since yesterday and I'm not a fan. There is no need to uphold Kobe's legend further especially at the cost of phasing out Jerry West's. Would also hate to find arguments later that goes: "Why Kobe over Jordan? Because he died first?"

Looks like more than 2 million people, including members of the NBA Players Association, do support the petition, so far.
