I prefer his run last year to Crowder's game. Not sure if Crowder is going to get a first, but that is what the Suns are holding out for. Bullock had a nice run late last season but he does not have nearly enough consistent history to rely on him repeating that performance. I would be fine sending out Bullock for Crowder right now.

DFS is much better than Beasley. Beasley was sentenced for a felony when he pointed a gun at a family. Fire Nico!

Before Bullock's run last season, I would be willing to bet just about anybody on this board would have preferred Crowder for the MLE vs Bullock. Since then he has played maybe 2 or 3 months of good basketball, some of which happened to coincide with the playoffs. We have talked about needing more defense and size next to Wood. Crowder would make some sense in that capacity.

Crowder doesn't make us a contender, and if he walks in the summer, the only result would be the loss of expiring Bullock contract in the summer, that could be very useful in any trade.

I highly doubt this writer’s creation (where even he says ‘perhaps’ and ‘may’) is anything to worry about. Not only does this make us worse defensively, but it costs an extra $10mm or so in combined LT and salary. Also, DFS and injured Maxi are our only PF’s. I don’t know what the deal is…if there is a deal. But, it isn’t Beasley and a single first. A few things to think about. Utah has 3 firsts in 23. They have three sizable TPE’s. There are all sorts of things to potentially add to such a deal. If there is a DFS deal to Utah, it almost has to be part of something else or lead directly to something else. Interesting that larger expiring deals (Beasley is a TO) have been part of the THJ rumor (LeVert), the Bullock rumor (Reddish) and now this rumor.

RE: DFS Being Shopped
If the Mavs sell-high on DFS to accumulate some youth and assets, then I will 100% start to rebuild my trust in them. It will be a very positive step.

The tealeaves suggest the Mavs primary goal is to dump salary to stay under the tax. I'm sensing an unpleasant deadline.

I do not think DFS will be worth more than he is now, so if that is truly his max value right now, then so be it. Better than holding on to this no-man's-land and letting him degrade as a player.

But one is an actual offensive creator with some "carrying a winning team for stretches" potential, depending on the beholder. I'm comfortable with the cost of that being a great role player. I do not and will not agree that the only problem is defense. The numbers don't matter, because all of the "good" offense this team has is iso ball. I want to follow a team that MOVES THE BALL. Maybe the problem here is offensive talent/skill, maybe it's that the coach is unqualified and they don't have a system, maybe it's just that Luka and Dinwiddie won't give up the ball. There are times when I feel I see evidence of all of those symptoms, so I'm not sure what the solution is. What I do know is that getting this team where it needs to be is not just a matter of improving the defense. You know what makes players try harder on defense? Getting to touch the ball and feeling like they're important parts of a good team.
