In all honesty, it feels like that last offseason created some bad blood between the Mavs and Detroit/NYK. I wouldn’t be surprised if both teams give us the Suns treatment for at least a little bit.
As far as the trade as proposed? I think we’d be crazy not to do that, which makes me think it is not even, so something else needs to be given on our side. I also think any trade NYKs make will be centered around Randle.

Lots of good thoughts here.
I also think they'll be trying to unload Fournier to some sucker team. Hope that team is not the Mavs.

Thats what I am saying. Why set the team up to where you have to be a cap contortionist to get things done? Sure...being able to do those math moves in a good skill...but having your team in a position where you have to be able to do those moves to get anything done seems like it hurts your team or limits the types or amounts of trades you can do because you are in a tight spot with cap/assets.
I assume someones going to defend with "thats modern GMing" or "its cutting edge...it is what it is" without talking about the backend negatives to that type of philosophy. It sounds good on paper to cut corners by not having to hold rookies hands for 2 or 3 years and just go after plug and play vets...but there are team hindering repercussions long term.

I might be ok with unprotecting the first to get it done because I don't see that as much risk. Still a hard no on Hardy, however.
FWIW, this is where I am also. I’d unprotect the pick. Yeah, Wood isn’t a Thibs guy, but neither is Reddish. They really need some perimeter scoring, So, Wood at least fits as a bench piece there.
I think we need Rose more than we need Bullock and Rose is blocking some of NY’s younger players from getting PT. The prize to me is Hartenstein. He plays D, can pass from the short roll or hit a little push shot and I think he will be useful from the corner (and maybe good some day). I thought he made tons more sense than McGee and fits as the Powell-upgrade that McGee was sold as.
To me, Cam is a lottery ticket in much the same way Wood is. Who knows what you have there. It isn’t critical to our success (thank you Green) that Reddish pans out. But he goes to the basket a lot, which is something Kidd likes. So, if you can get the rest of his game to come around…. I also like that you’d have IH, Luka, Reddish, Green and Hardy on the 25 and under team after such a deal.

I like IH, but Rose is potentially in the process of falling off a cliff, and I don't have a lot of hope in the Reddish lottery ticket. As Wood packages go, I would prefer Vuc to this and Collins way more than either of them.

I've always thought Reddish has a little Wiggins to his game, except I don't think Reddish really knows how to play yet. Has the size to be the big wing, modern forward you look for but he seems like the opposite of DFS. Dorian is a classic hard hat dirty work guy. Reddish is a talent who may think he's better than he is. I checked his career splits, expecting to see at least one good 10 game run, but honestly he's never really put it all together. Best I can find is combined seven games as a COVID replacement starter last year: 41% FG% - 39% 3P% - 2.6 REB - 2.1 AST - 18.4 PPG

Honestly the Bulls are the best option to pull something off, since they are even more desperate than us. They owe a top 4 protected pick this year, so they cannot even realistically tank, so they need WIN NOW pieces.
..but everybody around the league is circling them.
I wonder how negative Ball´s value is. He might not play another game in the NBA. Smart by the Pelicans. They probably knew. That´s likely the reason they did not extend him, but they really sold the "bad fit"-angle well.
Would the Bulls do Ball/White for Wood/Bertans? We get off the Bertans contract for the equally awful Ball contract (lenght and size). We get rid of Wood, who likely will not be extended. They get rid of White, who they likely won´t extend. Our benefits are: healthy Ball is the best player in the deal. White is a RFA, so we control him.

The same way you get them by drafting.
With a lot of luck and a eye for talent.

Coincidence that Wood is missing games too?
Cam Reddish makes THJ look like a high IQ player.
He’s still only 23 but he’s been bad for one year at Duke and four years in the NBA. Still going off his high school ranking.

Man, I really wanted Ball but that knee is scary. White does not move the needle that much for me. The youth is nice, but he is a terrible defender and not particularly efficient on offense. I suppose it would be somebody that can actually pass the ball. I don't see the Bulls doing this unless they know the knee is screwed.

Seems like we had a ton of Caruso fans around here back when he was free. Something about him just puts me off, but there are a bunch of people who would be excited if he were available, I'm sure.

Put me firmly in the pro Caruso camp. He is a lot like our other 3&D guys (timid on offense) except he can actually pass the ball. He would also probably our best point of attack defender and probable best defender overall.

Caruso brings that Josh Green energy on Defense.
Ben Taylor had a piece on YouTube about how Caruso and Lonzo Ball were just absolutely killing teams with their defense pre-Ball injury.

Based on history there is a very high chance that whatever happens is not good.
