Serious question:
At what point does it become disrespectful to Wood’s talent to keep him out of the starting lineup?
I would argue that point has already been reached.

It never should have happened in the first place.

I sure hope wiser heads prevail and this limiting of Wood's minutes, especially down the stretch of the halves, is over and done. Completely unacceptable, there isn't enough margin for error in this competitive West to jack around like this.

MBT are probably playing checkers in the chess game that is the negotiation of Wood's next contract. I can't wait for some other team to hire Wood's dad and then not even sit down with us to talk about a new deal.

Need 2 points to tie the game...yeah let's keep Wood on the bench on the last possession. I'm sure the Pelicans were happy about that

Can Wood get a shot off in 2.7 seconds? I just think Wood needs to get his share of last second shots.

I can already see it unfolding as well.

It´s not about hurting McGee´s feelings. It´s about exposing the new MBT (including Kidd) as morons for giving him that stupid deal by backtracking three games into the season. That was your big FA signing. It makes them look worse than McGee. McGee probably never felt smarter in his life than when he put ink to that paper.

Well probably not and that´s the problem. We have no shot creators like that. Other teams also know the ball goes to Luka and if they have worked him hard the whole game, it´s likely going to be a tired miss. Who else can create a shot for themselves with a tightly contested dribble and make a contested three? I´d say nobody.

I wanted McGee. But I wanted an older, but still useful, traditional center with "fall off the cliff protection" in the form of a 1 year deal. I'd campaigned for both D12 and McGee for the last few years until D12 hit a wall last year. I tried to talk myself into the McGee three year deal and even into him starting but man this is rough.

Both Dinwiddie and Wood could get a quality look with a little time on the clock. Luka isn't likely to give anyone else the opportunity.

That's not really what I have in mind.
I have no doubt Wood can take a shot off from an assist with the clock winding down.
I'm thinking if Wood can work with 3 seconds left in the clock.
If he can put a contested shot off when the defense is tight and there's no time to pass the ball to somebody else.
Now if there's more time like 7 to 8 seconds, then Wood is an option.
If the clock reads 7 seconds, Dirk can do a lot more than just step back 3. I bet in a way, Wood can too. Put him in ISO on seconds and he can drive the lane, bait for a foul and I'd think the last option for him is a mid range shot. But 2.7 seconds? Not sure there is time, unless he gets an inbound pass close to the rim.
I guess what I'm pointing out is, when the game goes down the wire, it never hurts to have designed plays for the team's other star/scorers.
Ideally, if the clock reads 7 seconds and above, Luka needs to touch the ball and get something going. But if his go to move in the last 7 seconds is a step back 3 at every type of possession, that's just bad decision making and bad coaching.
I'd give Luka a pass on this one though. 2.7 seconds is just too little a time for a slow player like him. And that nobody else can do much about it either. This is where the coaching staff should help. RC would have designed plays for the Jet to go around screens and take a pass, or Peja for the matter, or have Kidd throw up an oop for Marion or TC. Dirk was the primary threat, but isn't always the only threat.
I would think Kidd knew this.
Last second step back 3s from Luka looks good and feels good when it connects. But doesn't look like the strongest of plays when teams know it's the only play.

Everyone should check out the Christian Wood story when you get a chance. Dude went into the draft expecting late first round and goes undrafted. Totally devastated sitting there with his family and cameras on him. His girl dropped him that same night. Ends up getting cut from a Chinese team and takes the hard route to where he is today. I think with the love and structure he has here we will see great things. MFFL
