RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - mvossman - 05-16-2021 (05-15-2021, 09:23 PM)Kammrath Wrote: Yes, the best part about JC is his flexibility. He can be BOTH DP and Maxi at the same time. So it doesn't pigeonhole KP's role on the starters and maybe allows him more flexibility based on matchup. I don't see KP/JC/Luka being good enough defensively to truly contend. Both KP and JC need to play with someone to cover for their defensive limitations. Neither does that for each other. JC has Capella to cover him now, but that has been at the expense of someone else clogging the lane limiting his roll opportunities. His points and rebounds are significantly down this year as a result, and his offensive production doesn't really scream max player (but that is what he will get). He has similar fit issues as KP does. He would probably be best off with somebody like Turner. I'm not saying that I think KP/Maxi/Luka are good enough defensively to contend. The evidence this year is not good, but I don't know how much that has been impacted by injuries and Covid. If KP can't get his defensive game back to what it was last year, then we are going to need to move him as it will be near impossible to get any KP/Luka defense good enough to complete. This is why I greatly prefer the Holmes idea to Collins. Interior defense is more important right now than adding more elite offense, regardless of whether we keep KP, and he is a better fit in both cases. He also will be cheaper and not potentially cost assets to acquire. I think his contract size is going to be a turn-off but that's kind of how you have the opportunity to steal him away. He likely costs you Maxi as well but that's just the way it goes. THJ + Collins is a good summer to me. Ya I'd rather have Jrue Holiday but that shipped sailed a long time ago. Given the cost, I would be more excited about Holmes, Brogdon, Turner, Lowry, and/or Conley. I hate to hurt KL's eyes, but likely Ball as well. I would say that I'm close to believing that the ideal offseason would be KP and JB for Brogdon/Turner (don't think Indiana does that, but it would be great) with Collins as the cap room get. Gives us a fantastic starting lineup, but I'd still be pretty nervous with JB and THJ's shooting gone from the bench. I would put him on the list of contingency plans. Rubio moves the ball and could actually set up KP. Also a large expiring. Definitely better than Richardson. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - HanspardsShowerVoice - 05-17-2021 I don't "mind" Rubio, but there there is a reason why he's bounced around with so many teams. Everytime he is in the game he fills up your allotment of bad offensive players you can put on the floor at one time, and that's hard to swallow when you're talking about someone who can't protect the rim or guard wings. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StepBackJay - 05-17-2021 (05-17-2021, 09:53 AM)HanspardsShowerVoice Wrote: I don't "mind" Rubio, but there there is a reason why he's bounced around with so many teams. He's not super high on my list but goes into the sort of Dragic-tier bin of backup plans. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StepBackJay - 05-17-2021 Rubio is still only 30. Seems like he has been around forever. Definitely still great at dropping dimes, pushing the ball, making smart plays. Would be a good mentor I think for Luka and a guy that would get KP the ball in his favorite spots, same with Brunson and THJ. Rubio's defense is pretty good when I have watched him. With Rubio you give up shooting but he has had a long career bc he is good at getting other guys good shots and for a guy off the bench I think he'd do well and be a better fit than J Rich. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StepBackJay - 05-18-2021 We shouldn't underestimate how heavily weighted these playoff games are in terms of roster decisions. A good or bad series could be the difference between keeping any number of guys: KP, Rich, THJ, Brunson, WCS. Powell, Maxi. I think the safest non-Luka player is probably DFS. I know everyone is cussing Rich but if he has a great defensive series it could change his whole outlook. Remember this? https://thesmokingcuban.com/2021/03/17/mavericks-josh-richardson-belt-39-lac/. That happened. I forgot that DFS didn't play that game. If they pay THJ more and expect last year’s Jae play, they will be pretty disappointed overall. Also count me completely out if THJ is getting a raise this offseason. He's from SoFlo. They have capspace. They need another guard. Though he doesn't fit as seamlessly as Kyle Lowry. Also if they're interested in THJ, what does that make of Duncan Robinson? Are the Heat interested in a Robinson for THJ swap? Maybe throw Dragic in there? I'd love that.
