RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - mvossman - 04-17-2021 (04-17-2021, 10:37 AM)F Gump Wrote: Any offer for THT (which will be matchable) will be limited by, and complicated by, the Arenas Rule. That lowers the offer possibilities to a starting cap hit in about the $18-19M range (but no higher). THT is better than DFS, but it is hard to see him get an offer bigger than the MLE. Lakers will match that. What situation is that? RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - StepBackJay - 04-17-2021 Man Hawks are in 4th place in the East without Collins and Gallo. I think for the Mavs this is an ideal situation where the Hawks could find themselves seeing Collins as disposable. Mavs might need to move Maxi for a first round pick and add some other asset in there to get Hawks to bite on a S&T. The hard cap situation is interesting. I don't know what that means once the season is over. Will they still be hard capped? Also do the Lakers only get the taxpayer exception next off-season? Schroder to me is a big flight risk. But Lakers have pieces they can move. Harrell is one. Kuzma is another. As for THT no way he walks for nothing. Either they resign him or he is moved in a S&T. I still believe the number he signs at will not be crazy. I like Schroder...Plays defense, doesnt make me nervous when puts the ball on the floor like our guys and he seems to hit 3's well every time I watch him. His shot doesnt have a bunch of flaws that put you on the edge of your seat when he launches like our guys. THT is nice...great handles and can get to the basket...but his shot isnt super clean yet. Is Schroeders cleaner shot worth 5-8 more million than THT's ability to get to the rim with handles? Yikes...Schroeder career 33-34% from 3. THT = 26-27%. Rather have Brogdon than Schroeder for same price. Brogdon 3 numbers are way better and he has a good handle. They have to sign or replace Schroder, Matthews, Caruso, Dudley, Morris, Horton-Tucker, Drummond, and McLemore. That is 8 roster spots for $20Mish over the cap money. I see it as either THT or Schroder not both and maybe neither. There are other things they can do that free up more money depending on how many ring chasers they can get, like trading Kuzma and/or Caldwell-Pope for space and picks, but that leaves a hole as well. Having over $75M tied up in 2 players really handcuffs a team's salary. Hard cap is not a limit if they don't use MLE or bring in a player with SnT. I think they will be actually way over the hard cap, just as GSW, Brooklyn, Clippers and some more RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - ClutchDirk - 04-17-2021 https://media.giphy.com/media/jUK1GaiUYqK36aB1iE/giphy.gif https://media.giphy.com/media/3ov9jMWE2AODhs3Ncc/giphy.gif https://media.giphy.com/media/LmIlpkfuIghARhvMnS/giphy.gif https://media.giphy.com/media/bKnEnd65zqxfq/giphy.gif RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - Jason Terry - 04-17-2021 Yeah, if GSW are fine with $170 million in salary, how high will the Lakers go? So long as they don’t use any exceptions they can go as high as they want RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - StepBackJay - 04-17-2021 (04-17-2021, 02:09 PM)ItsGoTime Wrote: They are at $121M in committed salary this offseason and the hard cap is gonna be somewhere around $140M. Why not just try to throw money at Schroder, Caruso, THT to keep them and not use exceptions? They still can use vet mins all day. Drummond was going to probably be gone anyway. If they do that they can go way over the cap. If they lose Schroder then maybe that changes their plan and they try to operate under the hard cap? Not sure. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - F Gump - 04-17-2021 There is no hard cap limit on spending - unless you do something in free agency to create one. And if you do create one, once the year ends, it does not carry over to the next NBA year. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - DanSchwartzgan - 04-17-2021 (04-17-2021, 10:56 AM)mvossman Wrote: THT is better than DFS, but it is hard to see him get an offer bigger than the MLE. Lakers will match that. Agree. If THT was 27ish, I could see the DFS comparison, but at 20, give me the “over” on the $4mm. Value is theoretical, but to get an offer over the MLE, you have to have an actual team making an actual bid. There “might” be more dollars than worthy FA’s when the music stops this summer and as they say...it only takes one, but MLE or under seems most likely. I’m not sold on the idea LA will just S&T him rather than lose him for nothing. They would need to attack that before he signs an offer sheet. The agent will help here. But, LA doesn’t control the destination, THT does. And, the team he picks gets to decide to play along or not. BYC could also hamper things. As a team trying to steal THT, it is possible to pick a number too high to meet the BYC matching rules. That would wipe out the S&T possibility with non-cap room teams. Cap room teams are still in the game with LA more likely to get a TPE than a player in a deal like that. But, the issue is still finding a number you’d be comfortable with that LA wouldn’t. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - StepBackJay - 04-17-2021 Can we redo last offseason, draft Saddiq Bey, trade Jax/Wright + #31 for Danny Green, keep Seth and sign Jae Crowder to MLE? Luka/Brunson Green/THJ/Curry DFS/Bey Maxi/Crowder KP I think that is a pretty good team... THT is a much better ball handler and shot creator. Dorian got his contract at 26. THT will still be 20 when free agency starts. I don't really care about hype but the Lakers recent draft history is impressive. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - loki - 04-17-2021 Crazy thought of the day: KP/DFS for OG/Boucher/filler. Sign Holmes in free agency, bring back one of THJ/Richardson, and add some depth with the room exception. Luka / Brunson THJ OG / FA Kleber / Boucher Holmes / Powell Also on the table: stretch waive Powell (I know, I know) and make Cow's dream come true with THT.
