RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - StepBackJay - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 07:19 AM)omahen Wrote: I wouldn't be opposed at all to sign Aldridge at vet min. He would bring a lot of stuff we are missing (strength, toughness, vet leadership, post play). Of course in limited minutes. Nope we have to save all those guys for NY and LA to make sure we have an NY/LA finals. NBA league rules. This performance really helps in what we can get for him in his first healthy offseason in 3 years coming off an amazing playoff showing where we get out of the first round. I want to see the package but I am leaning towards requiring that Minney pick if GSW wants KP. The deal would be Wiseman (again if MBT believes in his talent and maybe they do maybe they don't), Oubre, Minney pick. Mavs would also gain cap space. The Minney pick could potentially become a third foundational player or be used in a trade. I still think there could be a team like Washington that would give away the store for a chance at KP. If you sell high and are able to get enough talent back to not take a step back then I think it's worth considering. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - Jason Terry - 03-11-2021 Assuming we keep KP, the easiest upgrade is someone that can play next to WCS on the 2nd unit. Not worth devoting serious assets to acquiring. Bjelica Gay Or a bought out LMA or OPj That’s about it RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - haveitall - 03-11-2021 (03-11-2021, 09:27 AM)StepBackJay Wrote: I want to see the package but I am leaning towards requiring that Minney pick if GSW wants KP. I think trading him is a knee jerk reaction (pun intended). In the offseason with a healthy KP fresh off a bubble KP performance (which is all second team worthy), the price goes up IMO. I think trading him is a knee jerk reaction (pun intended). KP might not be the stallion in the paint you would like offensively and defensively night in night out...but if he starts hitting that 8-10ft bank shot off the glass like he was consistently doing in the bubble...dude is no doubt a guy you would want on your team during PLAYOFF basketball. I think his length would be disruptive enough on defense too. From a business standpoint...you dont want instability...you want to be able to predict things so you can game plan and come out ahead. Its hard to do that with KP...injuries, inconsistent defense, max contract, inconsistent rebounding, etc.. Is it too much to deal with from a managers perspective? Just hard to figure this guy out. True Unicorn. I would not sell for pennies on the dollar until after this season if possible. Maybe KP is a player that really does need time to catch his rhythm after injuries. See if he is consistent the rest of the year...better yet if we make the playoffs we can see how good he is against stiff defenses...trade him at that point when there is a better picture of his value. Of course...this depends on IF and HOW STRONG KP's team is pressuring for a trade. A trade with GSW for Wiseman...risky, imo. His feel for the game is below average even at 19, imo. He has the tools like WCS...can the Mavs get him to utilize those tools in a reasonable time line? His shot is uncoordinated, imo...ive seen him put up numerous layups like the ones people joke about that Dwight Powell puts up. In 2021...2nd overall picks shouldnt be uncoordinated shot wise. How hard is NBA defense to learn? I really dont know...is learning rotations and being in the right position a multiple year learning process? Or can you get Wiseman to be really disruptive in a year on defense? Again...I really dont know. Wiseman just seems like a long term project. I get that he would be on a rookie deal(lottery) and I get that his measurable and quickness look good....but that feel for the game. I think the kid can be really good...its just how long will it take and does he have the drive to mold himself into that player? I think trading him is a knee jerk reaction (pun intended). Ya I am thinking there is still enough KP upside to hold onto him unless there is some behind-the-scenes stuff going on that forces the issue. I personally would pull the trigger on Oubre, Wiseman and the pick bc I think it sets you up for long-term success better. I am losing patience that KP is going to be consistently a good enough player to be a max guy. It all really depends on the Mavs assessment of Wiseman. My guess is since we did have a rumor of Mavs talking to GSW that they *do* have a high opinion of Wiseman bc he would be presumably the only player they would be interested in talking about on that team. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - HanspardShowerVoice - 03-11-2021 I wish Aldridge was more like Marc Gasol who could age gracefully even after he loses his scoring potency because he was an elite ball facilitator and could help you even if the shots don't go through him, but can't help but think the reason why he's on the outs with the Spurs. They have no choice but to cut him loose because he's a net negative when he's on the floor. It's not like the Spurs have a wealth of front court players and if Pop was in the mood for a complete rebuild you would have thought they would have done it in the offseason and not when they're in the 7th spot in the West. I know no one wants to see it, but Lakers are probably the best destination for him because LeBron can alpha dog him into accepting a more suitable role for where he is in his career like he did with Rondo and Howard. On the other side of that coin, I think it could be a disaster if he went to the Clippers because that lockerrom is already filled with so many moody players who have an over-inflated opinion of their abilities. How long before Aldridge and Marcus Morris got into it? I don't even have strong opinions on Wiseman, but I think the thing you're going to end up with on Wiseman is he is going to run through the end of his rookie contract still as raw as hamburger meat and you're going to be forced to pay him his max before you're even sure what he is, and you very likely end up paying a max for Kwame Brown or Bismack Biyombo. Trading him for KP is just running around in circles as a franchise and wasting 2-3 years of Luka under contract, especially if your'e taking on trash like Oubre to make the salaries match .. who I've never understood the love for. I can't tell you how much Mavs fans would grow to hate Oubre if he actually played for this team and they had to watch him every night. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - ItsGoTime - 03-11-2021 I honestly could care less if KP is out for 30 games a year, in the REGULAR season. My issue, since this IS a playoff caliber team in the West, is if he can stay healthy throughout a full playoff run. These players that get injured right before the playoffs KILLS a team. Is he an elite slasher? Maybe Luka would love to have a guy like that...someone that slashes and that he could lob to. I dont know. Those first few games of the season...Oubre was the laughing stock of the league. What was it...0-35 on threes or something? His career 3P% is trash too. But...is his defense great and is his possible lob threat ability something this team need needs/wants? I dont know. I do care ab the regular season bc it endangers the Mavs making the playoffs at all or being a bottom seed that has to play the leading contender. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - StepBackJay - 03-11-2021 Also what the crap is going on with Montrezl Harrell? He is acting like he's quitting on Twitter. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - StepBackJay - 03-11-2021 At this point assuming KP isn't a total drama queen behind the scenes I am okay with riding this thing out, getting more playoff experience and then throwing a lot of money at somebody. Overpay options include: - Lonzo - Collins - Oladipo Or some other interesting options like Fournier, Normal Powell. Nothing too exciting but probably an upgrade over the THJ/J Rich experience we have now. I just don't see how he is an upgrade. Currently shooting .387/.313 2pt/3pt on a Houston team where he is expected to provide scoring. THJ is .434/.380, JRich is .428/.292. So we give away both to get back less efficiency? Apparently Oladipo is still struggling with quad issues as well. I'm OK with seeing where the KP thing goes. If he can stay healthy, he may yet earn his salary. He will have some challenges over the next few weeks. I am interested in a scheme to throw money at Collins to see how much ATL wants him. |
