Also the FT drawing just vanished.

It’s pretty much indefensible what happened. The only way to look positive at his decline is with the theory in mind that being 12 more months away from the meniscus injury might help turn things around for him.

I have a different perspective.

Our supporting cast past KP and Luka are pretty bad.  To me, an unguardable player who basically pounds the rock until they get a shot or every player on the other team runs to them and they pass the ball to a wide open player (who may or may not make it) is going to do better than a player who depends on the offensive set and play to get his shot...and we don't even have a player than can throw a decent entry pass on time and on target...will obviously struggle.  It's well documented we don't have ANYONE outside of Luka who can actually run an offense or playmake with any consistency.  Honestly, Seth Curry was a much better playmaker than anyone on our roster outside of Luka...for Pete's sake, Delon Wright was better at running an offense than anyone else on our roster outside of Luka.  JJB was infinitely better at running an offense than anyone we have on our roster outside of Luka...

The player that is more dependent on a subpar cast to produce will obviously struggle more.

EDIT:  Should have read Dan's post first...it pretty much said something sort of simliar.

Which is why I go back to one thing...what changed for Season 1 to Season 2?  It seems to be simply the reluctance to pass it to an open KP....why is that?  Are we tired of the lame screens or fussing about his shots or whatever....that is PERSONAL CHEMISTRY.  Somebody got their panties in a wad and they are having a spat that is showing up on the court by people allowing personal feelings to get in the way.

Whatever reason that came about, it's got to change...or the next guy we bring in when we ship KP out had better not tick Luka off or get on his bad side, or it's gonna keep happening.  We are NOT trading Luka, so whoever comes in has gotta stay on his good side....which might be very easy to do and KP's biggest accomplishment might be finding a way to impossibly get on Luka's bad side, but I know one thing...when someone tries to run beside Luka in a near equal position eventually has problems so far.  Small sample size and I think KP is pretty full of himself, so that might be the problem, but either way, we have to either trade for someone  who Luka can respect and get along with or we need to trade with someone so much less than KP that they don't expect to produce like someone who is coming alongside Luka.

Need to think more Eric Gordon to James Harden than AD to LeBron (or vice versa).

My opinion is we keep KP, bank on him getting better, and try to get a real 2way #2-#3 guy, and push everyone else in the rotation down a slot....preferably someone who can run the offense a bit.  Looks like I'm advocating for a Leonard, Lowry or Conley....pipe dreams.

Pure wild-ass speculation on my part, but I would guess KP never really liked how ball dominate Luka was.  Remember he went from being Robin to Batman in New York with Melo and then back to Robin by coming to Dallas.  Signing the contract he got with Dallas was a no brainer because of his injury history.  Maybe he didn't like how he was being used the first season and wrote it off as being new to the team, new to the coaching staff and new to Luka, and then hoped things would get better.  In season 2 he's dealing with an injury, isn't so new to those factors and sees things are getting better with how he's being used and with how he and Luka mesh.  The relationship and his usage deteriorated over the course of that season leading to the playoffs.

Maybe a new coaching staff can help get this sorted out, but I'd move him in any reasonable deal.  The damage seems to have already been done and his injury history makes wanting to repair the relationships seem like a fools errand.  This all feels like a fresh start is needed for all parties involved.

Unless Cubes and the new triangle of trust put up a helluva smokescreen, I don't think KP is going anywhere this summer.

I think they were posturing to up his trade value, while preparing for the eventuality that none of the packages offered were worth the change. As I've said before, that eventuality would indicate that we whiffed on our GM hire. You have 29 teams that can make offers. With that competition, at least one should be worth pulling the trigger given the problems and risks of keeping him.

We have not heard a peep out of Janis...until then there are no big issues IMO...

There weren't enough vagaries in the KP answers to make me think he's going anywhere.

Cuban saying KP did exactly what was asked of him.
Cuban saying this is his first offseason to work on improving his game and first chance at continuity since his rookie season.
Kidd praising his unique skillsets.

I wouldn't consider it a Nico failure if we don't trade KP.  Cubes has final say so I'd pin that failure on him.

Just reading those flurry of tweets from KP's interview and I'm excited. He, as always, said the right things. I hope Kidd implements KP differently and we see the KP we've always wanted the last 2 years.

I hope the Mavs do everything they can to make KP look great at the start of this season and he puts up big numbers and then we trade him by the trade deadline because I will never trust his health or defense in the playoffs.

Do you mean "within reason" or "at all costs?"

I honestly believe that running the offense through KP, as was done in NY, will result in fewer wins. That's why I ask. In your opinion, is fetching a bigger haul in exchange for him worth that, as a short-term sacrifice (if I'm right)?

Well I assume we'll still be a playoff team thanks to Luka and whatever offseason help we get, so yeah, a few regular season wins would definitely be worth a better trade return.

Brutal.

Stephen A Smith and E!SPN are undefeated. Add in the symbiotic relationship with aggregators and they all just generate clicks for each other.

This is nonsense based off some broke-down SAS quote that he rehashed from someone else weeks ago....please stop sharing this nonsense....but then again, doesn't have to be true or credible or even current...as long as it bashes KP.  Can we have a little discretion every now and then?  #agenda
