Rebounding aside, hard to put up numbers when you don't get touches.

On the other hand it’s hard to expect touches when you’re terrible

Hard to know how good he is when he doesn't get touches.

I feel pretty confident that he got enough touches this year for us to form an opinion on what type of player he was this year.

Now, maybe his first real off-season will do some good, but I'm pretty sure increased KP touches wouldn't have improved this series. Not playing him at all might have.

I think he needs to go 100%.

I also think we need to take a hard look at what we paid for him and what we'll get when we ship him out.  And in a year or two from now, let's see how he looks on another team.

He has a hand in his tenure here, but he's not the only one that failed.  Hello Luka and hello Rick.

Well this didn't work out

Hopefully KP was being a good soldier and saying the right things to not ruin his trade value. And hopefully the MBT find KP a good home

Gotta say, I find this interview encouraging. He took this like a man, and didn't throw anyone under the bus.

Agreed, Killer, but he also seemed kind of broken down. Like whatever, it is what it is.

I think there is no denial that KP has not been utilized correctly. I don't know what he still can do but we did not find out in the playoffs.

Is it safe to say that either he or RC has to go?

First things first. That didn’t sound like a guy that knew he was getting traded soon. So that conspiracy theory is out.

As I was listening I thought about it and what makes sense to me is this guy came out of rehab this year and was on a new team. He then got to the playoffs and was on a brand new team. No wonder he looked so out of place all year!

I mostly want him traded as I’ve said, but I’m gonna stay prepared for that to not happen as well. If his value got any lower from his playoff performance and the FO didn’t have a desired trade in mind already in place or mostly agreed upon, I don’t think they go into this offseason with the same vitriol and determination that he is done with this team as all the rest of you guys seem to think. I stand by my thought that they find a good value deal for him or they keep him.

I’d so much prefer they find a good value deal for him. I am pretty far from KL’s assessment that this is who he is and I can’t imagine the FO thinks that way either.

I was thinking about that theory a lot. Sure it would explain a lot. But if it was a case, why even playing him risking an injury? Especially playing him as a role player not really helping the team. Wouldn't it make more sense to say his back hurts or something and sit him until the summer?

I am affraid his value is very low after this performance. But on the other hand, as it is nicely written in the Tjarks piece. Is Luka even ready to play with another star? So if we are not looking for a star trade, can KP net us two solid starters? If not, I guess it makes most sense he stays.

I also read another interesting piece I post below, basically saying: bring DeRozan, resign THJ (both for three years) and attack FA market in 2024 with just Luka on the books. Luka will be 25 then, more experienced, more mature. Perhaps ready for the super team and coexistence with other stars.

Seeing this above post has brought me out of just lurking status to want to post. With Porzingis complaining about Luka dominating the ball and the spotlight, it made me think about the early Jordan years with the Bulls. Did Pippen complain about Michael dominating the ball? Not saying Luka is Jordan level,( just yet Smile ) but when Jordan arrived on the Bulls he was the immediate star and had to learn so share for them to succeed. At what point did Jordan and Scottie learn to co-exist?

Or was Scottie just a more humble player and didn't complain about his role until later after they won championships?

Did you watch the ESPN series on Jordan?  Rodman said in a fun but serious tone "Michael wasn't passing the fucking ball"

But that was later in the 90's when that happened. I see a lot of similarities with the Mavs going forward. Does Porzingis get told basically to keep playing within the system like Pippen did or you're gone? The difference in our current situation, Porzingis has already been paid.

Going forward, do you trade Porzingis for a Rodman and a Kerr?

RE: HOLY KRISTAPS: All Things Porzingis | Would you trade him? - haveitall - 06-07-2021

I think Porzingis is right.  I understand that he hasn't played well but I also see that he needs more shots to get into rhythm.  Did anyone really think that the mavs would beat the clippers without him?  I don't understand why Carlisle wouldn't give this a chance.   This whole series was all about how to outmaneuver and outthink the Clippers as if the Mavs were not talented enough to beat them in a regular head to head matchup.  Porzingis is the star you traded for then he has to play 40 a night and shot at least 15 shots, and let the chips fall where they may.  This also affects Luka because, this is the reason his usage rate is too high. People keep talking about how amazing he is and that no one has done this before.  Carlisle put so much pressure on Luka his back is breaking at age 22.

1. I think if teams were interested in him before the playoffs, they are still interested. You can clearly write this performance off as coaching/gameplan. I don’t think this performance however got any other teams interested though.

2. There are a few of us that have been beating this drum for a while now. I really want to figure out a trade that gets us both Brogdon and Turner. Those two guys in place of any number of guys on our team would have us playing so much better IMO. I like the Brandeis trade I think it was with us giving up KP, Maxi and Brunson for those two. I would do that even though I am not sure that is enough return value for the FO to do it.
