Kings playing and winning tonight so far against the Pelicans plus Dallas saying they aren’t tanking….bad feeling about tomorrow

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - Knutsen - 04-05-2023

Bad night for us in the end… The Jazz came very close to beating the Lakers and OKC could very well have beaten the Warriors, which would have us tied for 9th in the lottery and almost certainly out of the last play-in spot.

I fear we are so stubborn that we try to win against the Kings tonight instead of doing what’s best for the future of our franchise.

The Kings can play their bench for the next three games.  Win or lose--it won't affect their position in the end.  The Kings starter would be well rested for the playoffs.

I fear the Mavs will win this game...

I think it makes sense for them to try to win at least one more game - Memphis has three away games remaining at New Orleans, at Milwaukee and at Oklahoma City.

If they lose 2 of those and Sacramento wins out they move up to second place.

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - DanSchwartzgan - 04-05-2023

I'm going to the game tonight.  Back when I bought the tickets, I thought this might be a meaningful game.  Little did I suspect that I'd be rooting for a loss.  I'm still convinced we are in a stealth-tank.  I realize we can still mathematically pass OKC (they hold the tie-breaker, so winning enough to tie them is the worst possible outcome).  Fortunately, I think OKC will do what it takes to hold onto the last play-in spot.  Here is how I see the Tankathon possibilities for Dallas:

1. Tie for 10th with Chicago (so at risk of both the coin flip or the lottery going against us and putting us at 11th).
2. Sole possession of 10th finishing ahead of Chicago (so at about a 20% risk of being leaped in the lottery).
3. Tie for 9th with Utah (coin flip for 9th/10th and then subject to being leaped if 10th)
4. Sole possession of 9th (highly unlikely at this point).

I suspect Dallas will screw the pooch and win one more game to get to 38-44.  Number 2 above is still in play as long as they lose to Chicago giving them 39 wins.  But, winning even one game will likely take numbers 3 and 4 out of play.  If we get to 38 wins, Utah would have to take 2 of 3 to finish the season against OKC, Denver and LAL just to tie.  I suspect we end up 10th pre-lottery which is tough because we have to wait six weeks to find out if we get screwed or not

Do you have your Kings jersey ready…? Weird experience, rooting for the opposition in our arena - good luck. Let the Kings players know when Memphis loses to New Orleans, that should motivate them to beat us in the 4th quarter…

Pick number 9 - your scenarios 3 and 4 - not only ensures we keep our pick but increases our chances at a Top 4 pick from under 14 to over 20 per cent.

I guess they are hell bent on ruining the tank. Wood hasn´t played defense since he joined the Mavs but today he suddenly decided to care. THJ cannot miss now that the Mavs need him to throw up bricks. Even McGee hasn´t been as bad in the last two games.

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - dirkfansince1998 - 04-05-2023

Kyrie single-handedly making sure that the Mavs don´t end up with a top 10 pick. That´s why they traded for him.

Depressing.

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - Mavs2021 - 04-05-2023

I AM SHOCKED. This is so unexpected. Didn´t even bother to watch the last few games anymore, cause I knew this would happen.

Now the Thunder probably win out along with the Mavs. Mavs finish in a 11th place tie with the Thunder, lose the tiebreaker, miss the play-in, and convert a lottery pick to the Knicks. Then offer Kyrie 250/5.

Oh you better believe it.

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - SwisherPrice - 04-05-2023

It's over...they will finish with a 3-game winning streak

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - loki - 04-05-2023

Prediction: Mavs and Thunder both go 2-0 to finish the year. Lottery pick goes to NY.

11th/11th was always the expected outcome.

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - Mavs2021 - 04-05-2023

It´s a shame Porzingis has no humour. The night THJ locked in the 11th pick for the Knicks, Grimes (the Mavs 25th pick) goes for 36/6/5/3 would have been the perfect time to announce he opts out of the final year of his contract, while we still pay Bertans for two more years. Big Grin

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - Reunion Mav - 04-05-2023

Trying to prepare myself for picking up the pieces. If we do end up 11th and the pick goes to NY, refresh my memory. What years do we have first round picks?

It is not like we somehow are getting an extra pick. Getting it now would be great but we can always trade the 24 first round pick to still get help now. I know we have no history at all of lottery luck but there’s no actual rule against us being the team that passes up to the 1-4 pick.

When we were in 5th I thought of some benefits of this flawed team playing 2 play in games against other flawed teams just to see more about who our keepers are even if they mostly increase their trade value. Who knows they might even win two and maybe play 5 playoff games.

RE: Team Tank 2022-23 - ItsGoTime - 04-05-2023

If the pick conveys, we would have either the 24 or 25 and the 27 to trade. If we get the top 10 pick we have the 23 and 27 to trade if needs be. Either way, we would have 2 picks to trade this offseason.
