You want Powell to start instead? Got it. Your vote has been recorded.

How can I be the only voice for modern space, pace, switchable basketball in the year 2022? Please seek help if you are addicted to the chemicals your brain makes when Dwight or McShaqtin throw down a wide open dunk.

Best interview on the squad says his mentality hasn't changed and his health is night compared to last year.

The problem is you think there is one answer when there are several.  Matchups will dictate the lineups and minutes.

SD is such a great communicator.  He could take a Harper or Harris role later on with the Mavs.  I wish Luka had some of that ability.

It would almost be worth the team taking a major step back because he headed into early retirement if he could take Harper's job right away.

Yes we need McShaqtin vs Embiid and Jokic, but not playing a traditional center is optimal vs the vast majority of teams.

Wood’s play will make what I am saying self evident. Unfortunately, I am certain most will ignore this when it happens though. It was obvious that DwIGhT rIm RuNnInG wasn’t going to work in the playoffs yet it was ignored until I was proven right. I can only pray that Kidd and Nico will understand eventually.

RE: MAVS NEWS: Vegas line: DAL 47.5 wins (7th in West) | preseason Oct 5, 7, 14 - KillerLeft - 09-26-2022

I'm fine with the idea of starting a rim runner to set screens for Luka to start halves. Running a lot of spread 1-5 pick and roll has traditionally been a great way to get Luka going, and lord knows it plays to his strengths.

But, the key word is spread. If that's the plan, I really, really don't get starting Dinwiddie over Hardaway. Seems like the move is to make sure that 1-5 pick and roll has space to dominate, making it as difficult as possible to contain. I doubt Dinwiddie is going to catch and shoot as well this year as he did after the trade, but even if he is able to keep that up, it's still not using his minutes to the greatest effect, imho, especially given the obvious, glaring shortage of ball-handling on this roster.

It DID work, it's just that by that point all of the defenses are great at seeing the first option (roller) coming and taking it away. That's how Luka ends up making people look so silly in the playoffs, because the defense is taking the screener (not only Powell, but certainly Powell when he's in there) away. It's also how Kleber got those 8 3's to drop from the corner against Utah, because Gobert had to make a choice on those plays.

I mean, I suppose...but it's not really a matter of opinion, honestly.

The entire Dallas approach late season was to start with one of those plays, and by then teams were like "F it, we're just going to switch everything. They're not getting us with that pick and roll." Then, Luka just goes to work on whatever big, dumb dinosaur lands in front of him.

THAT is the pick and roll WORKING in the playoffs. It's the opponent declaring right in front of our eyes that they're more worried about the multi-threat action than they are having Gobert or Ayton try to defend Luka on an island.

I think Crowder would help, but not as much as I thought back when he signed in PHX instead of coming here. He's just not the same player he was then, I don't think.

Plus, I think the team might be slightly worse this season, anyway, and Crowder, while helping in some areas, wouldn't solve some of what really worries me.

I've read in a few places recently that Crowder is upset in PHX because they want him to come off the bench, and he's focused on finding a starting job so that he can maximize his chances for one more big payday. I'm not sure I'd see him as a starter here, personally, and even if I did I certainly wouldn't want to be painted into a corner like that were I the Mavs.

Add all of that up, and no, I don't think I'd cough up Josh Green for Crowder, though if Green doesn't take a major step forward this season I might feel silly for saying so in a few months.

What is the matching salary? I think I’d give Green if they take Bertans. Something like Crowder and Saric for Bertans and Green.

That's better, but I'm not even sure I'd do that.

I get that Hardaway is clearly a better catch and shoot specialist but I thought that Dinwiddie's catch and shoot numbers here mirrored what they had been his whole career, am I mistaken about that?

I just think that Dinwiddie is a good enough shooter that defenses will have to respect it, will certainly be interesting to see how different Luka is next to Hardaway vs Dinwiddie this season though because of your point.

I kinda want to see what Green has this year, so I’m partly with you. If the Mavs did it, I wouldn’t be mad though. I also didn’t know about the starting thing being the reason for his malcontentedness. He’s not better than DFS and he can’t do what Bullock can do on defense, so that doesn’t bode well for him getting a starting spot here either. He would basically get any minutes Green was slotted for behind Bullock, especially if Saric was coming with him who would be fighting for minutes with Maxi and Wood.

All good problems to have, as long as they are content.

No thanks.

I am lukewarm on Crowder.

In theory, I like having a 3rd guy to rotate with DFS and RB. Crowder seems like a Kidd type.

But Crowder's wanting a starting spot (which the Mavs don't have to offer). And he's on an expiring deal, so he's just a rental probably. So more likely imo, the value to get him would probably just be a different expiring for an ensuing trade than Powell.

He doesn't fill the biggest hole at all, one which will be filled SOMEHOW, which is the need for the 3rd playmaker.

I can get to a trade that I would do -- Crowder for Powell. Nothing else. Suns save a bit, and move from a malcontent. Money-wise, and asset-wise, it works for me.

But since Powell is getting no minutes, Crowder lands here without a way to get on the floor. So maybe he's only valuable as a better expiring filler later on than Powell would be.
