RE: MAVS NEWS: Vegas line: DAL 47.5 wins (7th in West) - Kammrath - 08-14-2022 https://twitter.com/NickVanExit/status/1558847126272196608 RE: MAVS NEWS: Vegas line: DAL 47.5 wins (7th in West) - Chicagojk - 08-14-2022 The Pittsburgh kid feels like a Freon Hint type player, but a little older I think. I watched a few highlights and he looks to be athletic. Wright is a good player, just not sure he will ever be good enough to make our team. If he is on the G league team he would help settle some things on court. No problem bringing him to camp though RE: MAVS NEWS: Vegas line: DAL 47.5 wins (7th in West) - F Gump - 08-14-2022 The shooting stroke of the big from Pitt is really smooth and efficient. That's intriguing, especially for a bigger player. And I like how he attacks the rim when close to the basket. Can the Mavs do anything with that? RE: MAVS NEWS: Vegas line: DAL 47.5 wins (7th in West) - michaeltex - 08-15-2022 Doesn't a training camp contract give DAL preference on G-league signings? Is this just a move for new blood in the Frisco squad? RE: MAVS NEWS: Vegas line: DAL 47.5 wins (7th in West) - Chicagojk - 08-15-2022 (08-15-2022, 11:39 AM)michaeltex Wrote: Doesn't a training camp contract give DAL preference on G-league signings? Is this just a move for new blood in the Frisco squad? Yeah, I think last year Dallas had EJ Enu and Feron Hunt as camp invites and both wound up on the G-League. McKinley has a shot at the last roster spot if no one else is brought in but probably has an better chance as a two way guy. I wouldn't think Gueyue is a two way candidate, but maybe someone they are hoping to get a closer look at in the G-league. Highlights of both---Wright from last years draft and Gueyue from last season in college. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmVuIg1-IB4&t=259s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6iJ2QQGi3k&t=442s RE: MAVS NEWS: Vegas line: DAL 47.5 wins (7th in West) - F Gump - 08-15-2022 FROM VARIOUS SOURCES Wright -- Measured 5’11.25” barefoot, 6’0.25” in shoes 7’10.0” standing reach, 192.2 lbs, and 6’5.25” wingspan at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine McKinley Wright IV played last season for the Minnesota Timberwolves and their G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. Wright averaged over 19 points and seven assists per game at the G League level and played in just five games with the NBA squad. Wright recently played for the Suns' 2022 NBA Summer League team, averaging 8.4 points, 5.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 23.9 minutes per game over five appearances. Though Wright finished the 2021-22 campaign playing on one of the Timberwolves' two two-way contracts, he was able to join the Suns for the summer league after Minnesota declined to extend him a qualifying offer in late June. Wright made just five garbage-time appearances at the NBA level as a rookie last season and shot just 38.9 percent in summer-league play, so he could struggle to earn anything more than a training-camp invite in free agency this offseason. Wright averaged 18.9 points, 7.3 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 36.9 minutes across 18 appearances with the Iowa Wolves during the 2021-22 campaign. Wright scored 20-plus times eight times during his first G League campaign, including a season-high 28 during a Jan. 28 win. The 23-year-old point guard also dished out at least 10 assists seven times, including a season-high 15 during a March 29 loss, and registered a double-double in each of those contests, plus one triple-double. During his first career triple-double, Wright notched 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. .............. Gueye -- It doesn't look like Gueye made the cut to be invited to 2022 NBA combine, so he's way off the radar. Gueye is a 6-foot-11 stretch forward. He transferred to Pitt from Stony Brook prior to last season. In his lone year with the Panthers, he averaged 9.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, impressing with his athleticism, shooting ability, and shot-blocking skills. He wrapped up his Panther career with 312 total points and 43 three pointers. Gueye also blocked at least three shots in 11 games for the Panthers. Gueye, a former America East Defensive Player of the Year at Stony Brook, transferred to Pitt prior to the start of the 2021-22 season. In 32 games with the Panthers - 28 of which were starts - Gueye averaged 9.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. He finished third in the ACC in rejections per contest and shot 37% from 3-point distance. ........ I don't think the Mavs will have any intention of offering these guys more than a GL spot to start. But as they are currently configured, Dallas has the ability to offer the incentive -- if you take the GL opening and show us something we need at the NBA level, we have a 2-way slot open where we can pay you more and bring you up. And we have a regular roster spot open too, if you earn it. From the Mavs end of things, it's a better avenue to getting something from their GL perhaps, but they do have to be effective in the development department to make it work. Not that I think it's going to happen, but IF (a huge IF) the Mavs were to turn Wright into a usable 3rd PG/playmaker, it would be a huge positive advance. Get him on a minimum deal, and there would be minutes and opportunity for him to contribute as he learns. He does not have a terrible contract but it is 3 more years. He had some moments in Charlotte but I always felt it was because he played on a team where he was needed to score. I was hoping we would stay bigger moving forward. I was hoping we would stay bigger moving forward. I'm not a huge fan, but I pull the trigger for Powell. He would be a better 3rd PG than any other option available (he is actually very good in the P&R) and he shoots 42% on catch and shoot and wide open 3s. Playing next to Luka would do him wonders. He definitely has his limitations. He is not good inside the arc, he is undersized and he is not a great defender. I would rather have Dragic for the min, but that ship has sailed. If our options are this or the vet min scrap heap, I probably do this. I've read he's a very good shooter. I was hoping we would stay bigger moving forward. New Orleans could use some salary relief next season. They don't really need a Powell type, they need shooters. So the question is, how much they really value lower salaries. Could we get something more from the deal? Graham would certainly fill a need of the third PG. His last year is guaranteed only for 2 mil, so easy to move next season (this also goes for New Orleans, they are not terribly pressured to move him soon).
