RE: MAVS NEWS: Exum practiced, plan is hopefully play vs. CLE - SleepingHero - 03-04-2024 Worst Defensive Rating Since NBA All-Star Break: 30. Dallas Mavericks: 124.4 29. Washington Wizards: 122.9 28. Los Angeles Lakers: 121.5 27. Sacramento Kings: 119.1 26. Philadelphia 76ers: 117.7 RE: MAVS NEWS: Exum practiced, plan is hopefully play vs. CLE - SleepingHero - 03-04-2024 (03-04-2024, 03:48 AM)HoosierDaddyKid Wrote: I expect more from a 4 year player. He's been with the team long enough to know the plays and the schemes. I admit Kidd may not be the best coach for him, but he still should be showing more consistency in his play. But that's just me. Consistency for role players is always an issue. That's why they're role players. It's what they provide when they aren't scoring is what makes a role player valuable. I don't think it's outlandish to say Green disappears sometimes on the court. But he always tries to make the correct play, passes the ball well, and is one of the better defenders on the roster. If Green was an 18ppg (arbitrary 3rd scorer value I just made up) and was able to do that every game he'd be a 100 million player. He's not that. I don't think he'll ever be that. But what he is right now is good enough and works. He's not untouchable but he's a solid dude. The real blame has to be on Kidd. I keep bringing it up but the Mavs have changed basically every single aspect of this team in 3 years and it still looks broken. Luka is definitely not the problem. The only other constant is Kidd. I hope the Mavs FO sees what everyone else can see. RE: MAVS NEWS: Exum practiced, plan is hopefully play vs. CLE - SleepingHero - 03-04-2024 @wojespn Free agent F Alex Fudge has agreed on a two-way deal with the Dallas Mavericks, Shayaun Saee of @OneLegacySports tells ESPN. Fudge — who had been on a two-way with Lakers — has been playing for G League South Bay. Fits the height and position, but he is really, really raw. There’s a lot of chicken and egg with this. I think both are true. Our bad offense hurts our defense. Our bad defense hurts our offense. They ARE connected. They’re both problems Our offense is broken. The half court iso and PnR we run is so effective in the playoffs. We run it better than anyone in the league. This does not work all the time though. We can and need to have this half court iso ball as part of our game plan. It can’t be the only plan though. We need ball movement. The main ball stoppers are Luka and THJ. The positive news is we’ve shown flashes of being a faster team with more of a transition game. The shots will fall more frequently if more than one person touches it The defense is broken. I refuse to believe that Lively can only play drop. I refuse to believe that Lively is a worse perimeter defender than most of our guys. Kidd is wrong. What he’s right about is we’re only as good as our weakest link defensively. Obviously Luka and the world see that THJ is causing problems. Luka himself is causing problems defensively when he doesn’t show up like yesterday. It’s like we have no real philosophy or sense of direction with this team. Kidd is responsible. Still no identity. No real adjustments. With the talent we have compared to the WCF run there’s no excuse to be playing this poorly. Kidd has to fix it now or get fired RE: MAVS NEWS: Mavs sign Fudge to 2-Way Contract - GATA - 03-04-2024 Kyrie is by far our weakest link defensively. RE: MAVS NEWS: Mavs sign Fudge to 2-Way Contract - SwisherPrice - 03-04-2024 The entire team is lost when it comes to defending screens. The drop coverage philosphy is confusing everyone. Kidd needs to just simplify it and have them switch everytime...regardless of what players are involved and even if it results in a center on an island. I'd rather live with that happening than have 2 players stuck in no-man's land and then the opponent can simply move the ball around for a wide open three. Pretty much adopt the same strategy that opponents are using on the Mavs offense. If one player scores on a mismatch then fine but you're not going to let them consistently move the ball around and get good looks for their entire team. 30+ assists allowed in every game on the road trip and 26 yesterday vs. the Sixers (who only averaged 24 and are bottom-10 in the league). Interesting athletic profile, I‘m happy that we didn’t sign another undersized and defensively challenged point guard because of some crazy stats in the G-League. We have the best one of those with Kyrie already. Hardy will then be given his role as bench scorer and THJ will be shopped, as he'll have some value, also due to his expiring contract. I didn't realize it was that bad. I've missed a couple of games recently so I don't understand how we've been that inept. Is Gafford really so terrible here? I was a big advocate of bringing him here. I though he would be perfect backup version of Lively. I may have been mistaken. It also suggests that PJ and Maxi haven't been as effective defensively as is often discussed here. Presumably THJ is also hurting us defensively. Hopefully they turn it around quickly. Time is running out on the regular season. I think they have, for the most part. They're just not getting the bulk of the minutes. But still by far the best front court combination on the roster. Way better than any combination of Gafford+x or Lively +x. Just looking at defensive on/off single big Gafford is slightly better than Lively in the same role. But Gafford is borderline unplayable on offense. Offense is 6.1pts worse with him on the floor. RE: MAVS NEWS: Mavs sign Fudge to 2-Way Contract - SleepingHero - 03-04-2024 @NBAOfficial Luka Dončić’s (DAL) technical foul at 5:22 of the 4th qtr on 3/3/24 has been rescinded upon league office review. RE: MAVS NEWS: Exum practiced, plan is hopefully play vs. CLE - youzigizag - 03-04-2024 (03-04-2024, 02:47 PM)WillE Wrote: If PJ Washington manages to establish himself as a 3rd option on offense (which means at least average percentages from 3), THJ will be gone by next season. I wonder if this is why PJ has been taking some shots that have been scrutinized around here last few games. Tim is gone, imo. I give him a lot of crap on this board. But...I think ultimately it comes down to bad defense and a little bit of 1st banana syndrome. I think Mavs give him too long of a leash to shoot...but I think he could be a deadly role player if he played the way most on this board would like him to play. Again...I dont know if its Mavs reinforcing him to shoot bad shots or its him. But...its defense with this guy that is hurting him. What is concerning is going from THJ taking bad shots to PJ. Are Mavs that desperate for a 3rd scorer that they are willing to sacrifice offensive possession to establish that player? (this is of course assuming you believe PJ has taken some bad shots last few games and that Mavs are trying to establish a 3rd scrorer). Im kind of over the bad possession regular season Mavs. If THJ, Green, Maxi, PJ, Hardy cant get it done as two ways...I think the Mavs should look for trades. Obviously I give PJ a longer leash due to length, athleticism, ability. I would like to see stats on teams in regards to defending Josh Green. I have read(dont know if true) on here that he is top 20 in efficiency in the league. His 3 shot is looking good these days. Is he providing gravity similar to Hardaway? I just dont see how he cant get shots like Hardaway or Bullock. I get that he has a timid issue and wont shoot unless wide open. I am saying that Hardaway and Bullock shot WAY WAY WAY more wide open shots than Josh gets. How is that? If Hardaway provides space...how is he able to get wide open 3 looks at a way higher clip than Green(and Bullock when he was here)? I dont believe the excuse of veteran knowledge and sliding to an open pocket....I see Green do this a lot and not get the ball. Plus...its not rocket science to slide to an open pocket. Something doesnt add up in the Green and wide open looks category unless Mavs are saving it for the playoffs. Anyway...Mavs need to drain the swamp of one way players and get bball players in here that contribute on both ends of the floor...not specialists. They have made strides...but if Maxi, Green, PJ, Hardy, THJ piss the bedspread this post-season...Mavs need to be willing to include all in trades.
