RE: MAVS NEWS: interest in Thybulle? Kyrie?? | leaving roster spot for future? - RasheedsBigWhiteSpot - 07-04-2022

Why not:

Mavs: Simmons

Nets: Harris, Thy (fits in TPE)
Fixes any Simmons CBA issues in Durant return and Harris is a year shorter than BS.

76ers: Bullock, Bertans, Powell
Less money explains ability to use fMLE on Tucker.

Still blinking in surprise that no one on this current page of the thread acknowledged the post at the bottom of the prior page. We aren't trading Bullock to Philly.

I don't see anything definitive that he isn't going to the Sixers.  Just more conjecture.

I guess people are going to take things how they want to. Then again, these past several days have put Mavs fans in a state of PTSD, so...

Huh Cry Undecided

I don’t understand any of it. I don’t get why people think Reggie’s going. I don’t get why you think he quashed the rumor. It’s way too cryptic for this old dude who is barely literate in emojis.

I despise that deal. Bullock was a fantastic defender and shooter, and was good for 35 mins in the playoffs.

The bench will be Dinwiddie/Frank/Thybulle/Maxi. Who the hell is going to score there? Are we expecting Dinwiddie to become a 30ppg guy?

This deal only makes sense if we can somehow snag Jordan Clarkson.

I think lack of defense is a legit concern, but Harris is a creator and ball mover.  In fact Harris is probably the most legitimate option to backfill what we are missing from Brunson in the starting lineup.  I would hate to lose Bullock (and it does not look like this is happening), but a Bertans/Bullock/Powell trade for Harris/Thybulle would make some sense.  It still would not be a reason not have signed Dragic for the min.

For the fun of it (ignoring whether the social media stuff is real or not), let's combine the deal I have in the Dragic thread with this one.  To review, the Detroit deal is THJ for Burks and Saben Lee (who has a Sean Sweeney connection).  Then we do the Bullock, Powell and Bertans for T. Harris, Thybulle deal (and I'm going to add Paul Reed).

Wood       McGee
Harris       Maxi           P. Reed
DFS          Green         Frank/Pinson
Thybulle    Burks         Hardy
Luka         Dinwiddie    Saben Lee

Thybulle works IMO because he can be your one non shooter on the floor in this scenario.

Can he rim run?  He can't shoot a 3 or mid range.  He allows the defense to keep his defender in the paint, clogging up the lane.  His defense is elite, but he has to be able to shoot 3 better to keep him from being a big negative on offense.

RE: MAVS NEWS: interest in Thybulle? Kyrie?? | leaving roster spot for future? - Okstate819 - 07-04-2022

Bullock/Bertans/Powell for Harris/Thybulle makes some sense. Yes Thybulle is a bad offensive player but similar to Simmons his flaws are exasperated by playing with Embiid. On the plus side, would he be the best defender on the team? Or at least on DFS level?

As for Harris, he does have rare skills as a “big wing” on offense and I think he shoots it well enough to be a spacer when needed (shot a better 3% than Bullock last year). Also, his contract could be used in a trade as a big expiring next off-season.

i havent tried to figure it out exactly, but they also probably get 2 TPEs that could be used next summer. with one being over 19M

I think Dorian is a very good defender, but Thybulle is in a different league.  He would easily be best defender on the team.

Maybe that TPE and three picks and expiring Harris and Burks and some youth in Green, Hardy, Reed and Lee might be helpful a year from now when “the” trade presents itself.

RE: MAVS NEWS: interest in Thybulle? Kyrie?? | leaving roster spot for future? - Bayliss - 07-04-2022

I didn't really like the Bullock signing when it happened.  I think he was awful for most of the year.  He played pretty good in the playoffs except for that stinker game against GS.

But the Mavs cannot continually trade guys they signed one year and trade the next, right?  Why would anyone want to sign with them if they know they could be gone tomorrow.  I know it's a business but continuity and gamesmanship in negotiations in the league should matter.

But maybe I'm naive.

(And I am not talking about the guys that are minimum/ two way type contracts....  those guys are essentially the "at will" employees and they know that.)

Recognizing we are deep in fantasy land discussing a deal that is at least 4 teams with five new Mav’s and four going out that takes Detroit up to their cap, lets NY remain above the cap and let’s Philly save the money needed to give Harden what he wants while getting to use the MLE on Tucker, I tend to agree.

I started to put Burkes in the starting lineup instead of Thybulle because of his secondary ball handling skills. But Harris provides that and Thybulle and DFS make up for the defensive shortcomings of the other three (it isn’t like we didn’t have a similar problem with Powell, Brunson).  I think Maxi, Burks and SD are a strong bench in an 8 man rotation and you have McGee as a specialist and some developmental kids taking up the 11-15 slots.  I kind of like it.

RE: MAVS NEWS: interest in Thybulle? Kyrie?? | leaving roster spot for future? - F Gump - 07-04-2022

I think the player that doesn't work out is (and should be) in danger of being moved ...but not the one who fits like a glove and plays great. Then again, I'm one very staunchly in the "uninterested" camp when it comes to trading Bullock or any of the key core players.

So Mavs CBA was right.  That means we had less than the tax MLE to compete for players.  I'm finding myself less annoyed with the McGee pickup and more annoyed with not getting Dragic.
