Wouldn't love either contract but at least JB's contract could be used somewhat easily down the line. Realistically, as bad as JB wanted the Knicks they would have had to pay around $130+ for him to stay. Hard pass. Dang he lucked out with timing at least "The Spurs, however, picked up Primo's third-year option just two weeks ago, meaning his contract had been guaranteed for $4.1 million this season and $4.3 million next season. He can now be claimed on waivers, and if he clears waivers, he will be an unrestricted free agent." We are a worse team with nothing to show for saving a billionaire a few bucks. It's to be determined if they are worse off without him, but you can see the difference he makes in NY. They must have really lowballed JB because he was outta here quick, fast and in a hurry. And the mighty Lakers are also on track to win the big race to bottom for one the generational draft studs next year. The Lakers are so bad that even with "goat" Lebron they could manage to snag that top lottery pick ... for the Pelicans https://www.tankathon.com RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA to pursue upper spending limit in next CBA| Spurs waive Primo - Kammrath - 10-29-2022 https://twitter.com/TheHoopCentral/status/1586212144613249024 RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA to pursue upper spending limit in next CBA, NBAPA to resist - MFFL - 10-29-2022 (10-28-2022, 02:57 PM)Kammrath Wrote: https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1586082934511083521 The luxury tax is working AGAINST the intentions. I have a theory that people quit hiding their crazy during the pandemic. Before the pandemic they would normally hang out with friends who had a similar belief system. During the pandemic it was harder so they started showing that crazy online. And it spread like wildfire. Hard pass. None of us 'know' if even that would have worked. I think Dallas clearly mishandled the Brunson situation, but the mistake was letting it get to the summer and assuming they could get something back from NY in a S&T. We simply have no idea if throwing more money at this would have worked. NY offered family and a team Brunson could call his own. That was never going to happen here. Oh, and it wasn't just a little more money. The NY contract would have cost Dallas almost $100mm this season alone. People saying "If THJ is worth $19mm, then surely" is a false dichotomy. One bad contract (now unmovable) doesn't justify a second bad one. Brunson at $130mm in his DALLAS ROLE would have been a bad contract. Letting him go for nothing was a really bad move, but the mistake was not trading him the summer or at the TDL. Once it got to July, we had no control over the outcome. I’m a Mavs fan, so I don’t like the Spurs, but I don’t think they are so sh***y as to just dump him if there hadn’t been something. RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA to pursue upper spending limit in next CBA| Spurs waive Primo - Chicagojk - 10-29-2022 Watched a few games last night. Halliburtan is so good. One of my favorite players to watch. Indy will not be good this year but they have the pieces to become respectable soon. A top 3 pick will really help put them in the next tier with promising young teams. Lavert and Mitchell were both excellent in their win against the Celtics. Impressive showing. if you never saw NBA basketball since the 80's and if I turned on the tv and told you Bol Bol was the greatest ever, you probably wouldn't argue. https://twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/1586156316279439360 Hello Mr Sharpe. There is a chance he may be the best player out of this draft and that is saying something. #6 and #7 is making this years draft look even better. Although, #9 in Johnny Davis does not look good at all. https://twitter.com/SportsCenter/status/1586190045773537281 RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA to pursue upper spending limit in next CBA, NBAPA to resist - mvossman - 10-29-2022 (10-29-2022, 08:59 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: None of us 'know' if even that would have worked. The biggest mistake was not at least offering him the max extension last offseason. I'm not saying it was a no brainer and I don't know if he takes it (I think even then he wanted to get out from Luka shadow) but imagine if we went into this offseason with Brunson on a 12 mil contract. I still think the clear answer at that point was to use the 2022 first rounder to dump salary. We instead traded it for someone who most likely won't be re-signing with us next summer RE: AROUND the NBA: NBA to pursue upper spending limit in next CBA| Spurs waive Primo - SleepingHero - 10-29-2022 (10-29-2022, 10:25 AM)mvossman Wrote: The biggest mistake was not at least offering him the max extension last offseason. Coming off that Clippers series I don't think anyone here would've liked Brunson at 13+mil a year which would've been higher than Powell/DFS/Maxi. Dude was legit played off the court averaging 8ppg with a -56. It would've been a massive risk throwing him a guaranteed 55mil for 4 years. Of course that would've been the best move in hindsight but it doesn't matter much. (10-29-2022, 08:59 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: One bad contract (now unmovable) doesn't justify a second bad one. The real mistake was not trading him before it got to summer. I said it wasn't a no brainer, but if you go back and look at this board at the time, there were plenty of folks that thought we should offer the full extension (and some that thought he was not worth half that). Its the job of this FO to know their own players and make these assessments correctly. If half this board could see that he was going to be worth it (I was on the fence) then the FO should have seen it too. Nico is supposed to be (and if Cuban's going to act like he is, he'd better be one as well). Screw the MBT for botching this. He'll re-sign here for sure unless Cuban chooses to be a cheap idiot again, in which case Luka should (and likely will) demand an immediate trade. As I posted a few days ago, if Wood consistently plays like he did in the first three games, he's worth max money to the Mavs. If the defense turns out to be that big of a deal - and it would have to be an absolutely gigantic, game-losing issue for that to be the case - then they *must* trade him at the deadline. They'll know enough by then. They should also be able to gauge enough about his character to determine if he's just a contract year ho. |
