RE: TRADE & FA: LAL to eventually trade for Turner & Hield? - dirkfansince1998 - 11-02-2022 (11-02-2022, 09:24 AM)Smitty Wrote: Anyone watched Simmons this year? How does he look? Afraid of his own shadow when he is in a position to score. Either lacking motivation or confidence. I don´t think it is impossible for him to turn things around but I am not sure if Dallas can offer him the environment that he needs. A small market team or a team with a proven track record when it comes to the recovery of headcases and former star players. Something like GS turning no defense volume chucker Wiggins into one of the best 3&D wings in the league within a couple of month. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - Smitty - 11-02-2022 Keep in mind that any trade the Mavs make will have to decrease payroll in the process. Any trade that adds money (tax) is a non-starter for Cuban. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - vfromlmf - 11-02-2022 Mavs' greatest need is secondary ball-handler and elite point-of-attack defender. Ideally, one player does both. Nets need veteran shooting and size. THJ, Bertans, Powell are all playoff rotation players and two of them are out of the mix in Dallas. RE: TRADE & FA: LAL to eventually trade for Turner & Hield? - KillerLeft - 11-02-2022 (11-02-2022, 09:24 AM)Smitty Wrote: Anyone watched Simmons this year? How does he look? I didn't really notice him against the Mavs other than the late steal of Luka and assist to KD. He has been extremely rusty, and has looked like he recently had back surgery, which he has. To give you an idea, the Mavs game was probably his best game, so far. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - KillerLeft - 11-02-2022 I'm not as pro-Simmons as I was the last time this topic came up, for two reasons: 1) he hasn't looked great in a general way, so far. Whether this is due to deep mental issues or just the reasonably expected rust from recent surgery and/or years without participation, I don't know. But, it's pretty concerning at the moment. He used to be one of the better Luka-defenders in the NBA, but the other night Luka was actually seeking him out and punking him. 2) Even on a team with Kyrie Irving, the Nets have started by playing him at PG. Now, I don't know if this choice was made because the coaches thought he was the best choice for that role, or if Simmons and his people refuse to consider any other role, but if it's the latter then he's just not a fit here in Dallas, playing with Luka. His contract is significant enough to scare me. If his play doesn't improve, you're right back were you were with KP...maybe even a little worse off. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - KillerLeft - 11-02-2022 If they DO trade for Simmons, I certainly hope McGee is part of the package. I would assume they wouldn't do it without including Bertans with Hardaway, but for me the silver lining would be getting McGee out of here. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - dynamicalVoid - 11-02-2022 Sorry for saying the same thing over and over...but as a casual that guy looks really bad. I already said that he could maybe trick me and kick things into another gear or two and me looks like a fool later...but his play has been so terrible. Ive watched him exclusively for 2 full game pretty much...just a nothing burger. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - Smitty - 11-02-2022 (11-02-2022, 11:48 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: If they DO trade for Simmons, I certainly hope McGee is part of the package. I'd do a lot of things to never have to watch another minute of McGee in a Mavs uniform. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - Mavs2021 - 11-02-2022 Mavs have navigated themselves into a corner, where they´ll have to take chances. Could it be a disaster? Well duh. Could it work out great in the long run? Also possibe. The question is what do the Nets expect in return. If it´s as little as Bertans, THJ, McGee you have to do it. The Nets even have some need for Joel McGee. Even if you add Bullock you probably have to pull the trigger. It´s not even a financial commitment for the first three years. RE: TRADE & FA: LAL to eventually trade for Turner & Hield? - SleepingHero - 11-02-2022 (11-02-2022, 09:13 AM)Kammrath Wrote: https://twitter.com/TheNBACentral/status/1587803861720391683 I'm convinced that anyone who has actually watched what Simmons has done this year and thought "Oh yeah that's a winning player who I want on my team" is actively trying to sabotage their own team. I believe this might be the last contract for Simmons. He's been that bad. He's been that bad. I have watched him about 4 times, and if he doesn't improve soon and start to resemble the player he used to be, I totally agree with you. But, he might do that. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - cow - 11-02-2022 You can't recover from a Simmons trade. It would be like Westbrook on the Lakers but maybe worse. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - dynamicalVoid - 11-02-2022 1) Hes already grabbing at his back as if there is a lingering issue. He still played the remainder of that game and played vs us...so whatever it was is not serious I suppose. 2) He got publicly humiliated and came back looking worse. Rust? Back issues? Playing Possum? 3) Hes missed numerous easy baskets. Needs time to knock rust off? Ok...how long? Draw the line in the sand. 4) Was passed a ball in the middle of a wide open lane...didnt even turn around to see if there was a clear lane to the basket for an easy layup(there was) and kicked out to perimeter. 5) Already witnessed him bring the ball up court all the way to the top of the key and not a single player on the other team guarding him and Simmons picked up his dribble and passed the ball. 6) Casual scout review on him: He seems uninterested. So many Red Flags. I would not trade for this guy unless you think you have to strike now or miss out on a player you think you can rehab. Preferably...you wait and see if he knocks rust off and shows you something and then trade for him before TDL. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - Kammrath - 11-02-2022 RE: Ben Simmons Trade I consider it very seriously (of course the Mavs will have the real intel on his health situation) if it is... DAL: THJ+DB+McGee BRK: BS+asset Brooklyn is stuck and desperate, use that against them. RE: TRADE & FA: Nets looking to trade Simmons for veteran shooter? - dynamicalVoid - 11-02-2022 Bertans is basically Ben Simmons these days and can shoot. Ideally, one player does both. This does feel a bit like a Mav’s type move. My guess would be THJ/Powell for Simmons and one of the many $2mm guys off the Brooklyn Roster like Sharpe or Thomas. I’d add to your list the ability to play alongside Wood defensively with size. Wood/Maxi seems to work. Defensively, Wood/Simmons would also work. Obviously, Simmons isn’t the three point shooter Maxi is, but can he play on-ball some in lineups with Wood? A big-big PnR or PnPop? Simmons would essentially be a ‘point-center’ or ‘point-four’ depending on what you consider Wood. Replacing THJ with a plus defender would probably also allow you to get some minutes out of Bertans. All of this is theoretical of course. None of us know what 22/23 Simmons would look like here. It is a huge gamble and we are playing with Luka’s future if they don’t get this one right. Simmons doesn’t look right, but the give up is what? Hardaway? If it worked, you could have Simmons/Wood as your starting 4/5 for basically THJ and a late first (which you got back in the form of Thomas or Sharpe). If it doesn’t work? Heads roll and Luka is in LA in a few years.
