I mentioned it somewhere in the Kidd thread, currently the trifecta of defensive evil Luka - THJ - Brunson, barely seeing minutes together on the floor. They are also negative in the 14 minutes, despite going 5-0 in the last 5 games. Ok Luka missed a game, tho essentially 4 games. The sample sizes aren't big, but its something to watch for in the next few weeks.

Its way too early, but it seems coaching staff found ways to use THJ better. If you want to be a THJ hater, you could say they found ways to minimize his damage Big Grin
You could argue THJ isn't good enough to adjust the lineups for him. But unless the rotation is pure luck by the coaching staff they are trying to go with more defense around THJ.

I don't see Harris as an ideal fit with Luka and nor you can start Luka/Brunson with Harris, if your goal is top 10 (5) defense longterm. And a 35 mill bench player is gross. Harris has lowkey had a terrible year. Mavs already made the mistake once, to think a former Sixers will look better due to Luka. His contract is Westbrook back. No way you trade for Harris. Mavs would be the laughing stock of the league, if it doesn't work out.
THJ also had better playoffs compared to Harris imo. Harris poor playoffs going unnoticed due to the Simmons drama.

I would also say THJ had better playoffs compared to Harris. And Clippers are way better than the Hawks/Knicks.

I agree.  I would not be concerned with a Bullock for Green swap, but you have properly soured me on THJ for Harris (more from an anti Harris standpoint than a pro THJ standpoint).

Good stuff.  The quibble I have here is Harris is replacing Powell in the starting lineup.  So, the proper trade-off is how much that hurts the D among your starters vs. how much it helps your O.  The opinions regarding Powell's D are wide ranging and the stats are not exactly conclusive.  Harris can create his own shot and distribute.  Maybe the D suffers, but the offense is more diverse and it will be really difficult to play off of any of Harris, KP, Luka or Brunson.

On the bench, you are adding Powell and creating more time for Green (both help the D).  I think DGreen and Bullock are roughly a wash.  We don't platoon so you have to think of lineups always having one of the PG's, but for comparison sake, is column one an improvement over column two or not in terms of your top nine?

Powell       KP
KP            Harris
DFS          DFS
Luka         Luka
Brunson    Brunson

Maxi         Powell
THJ          Maxi
JGreen     JGreen
Bullock     DGreen

My counter argument to this is that you could improve that starting lineup without the trade:

KP
DFS
Bullock
Luka
Brunson

If you say we need Powell in the starting lineup to "protect" KP, I say that Tobias Harris does really provide that either.

In the process, however, he does articulate the Philly position on Harris pretty clearly. If teams want to trade a high-priced forward for Simmons, Harris has to also be on the way out.

That does open the window for a 3rd team like Dallas to trade for Harris if they're interested.

As an aside, Woj's comments about deals centered around expensive forwards "not moving the needle" because of their salary structure with Harris could be interpreted two ways:

1. They also want to move Harris
2. They'd prefer to trade Simmons for another guard

Interpretation #2 also matches with their well-known obsession with Lillard, Harden, and Beal. But in terms of Dallas theoreticals, it also could mean that a guy like Brunson could be more appealing to them than people realize.

Long story short -- instead of focusing on what we hear Philly doesn't want, I think we should read between the lines on what they do want.

Quote:Per a source in Simmons camp: his preferred teams in the West are Dallas & GSW. He realises GSW is highly unlikely and thinks Philly’s asking price is too steep. Fears the 76ers may not trade him at all.

Give me Turner and Simmons and Nico gets his statue next summer.

The offense would take some time to sort out but the defense would be insane if we can keep DFS

That would be incredible. Salty defensive potential.

What happened to "BS wants his own team?" Golden State isn't giving them Steph, and we certainly aren't giving them Luka.

Might never have been a real desire from him and his camp. Might have been PHI trying to control the narrative.

I don't much about Simmons skills as a basketball player. But it appears he has serious off field issues and with motivation and as team player? Any red flags here perhaps? Why is he leaving his team and not playing? Wouldnt the same happen here?

A 3 team deal with between Dallas, Philly, and Charlotte makes the most sense. KP seems like the perfect fit on that Hornets team and Hayward would be useful for Philly

Their coach publicly shamed him for his performance in these last playoffs and there also appears to be some sort of tension between Simmons and Embiid
So there's certainly a chance of similar things happening down the line here if he's just overall difficult to deal with.
But hopefully would work out.

I don’t have a link or anything, but it has been a pretty poorly kept secret that those two players have hated each other for the past five years or so.

A quick stab would be:

Mavs get Simmons, Washington

Philly gets Hayward, Brunson

Charlotte gets KP

Need to work the Pacers in there to get Turner.  Not sure we have enough assets left over.

Of course I have some concerns but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because he isn´t the first player to clash with Doc Rivers or the first player to ask for a trade. I think both sides handled the situation as bad as it gets.
Also think that he is aware of the consequences if he pulls of something similar on another team. That´s probably the end of his career or would at least prevent him from ever getting another big contract.

Without the concerns a player of his caliber would not be on the market. Three consecutive all star teams. Two all defense first teams. One all NBA 3rd team. All in the last three seasons. That´s a level above guys like KP, Ingram or Hayward.

That report is my worst nightmare come true. The thought of trading for a malcontent like Simmons makes me break out in a cold sweat. We're going to give up all our best assets for a guy that doesn't care enough to try to improve his game? A guy on a massive max extension that is afraid to shoot and will be left wide open in the playoffs? A guy that thinks he's a point guard and will surely start to pout when Luka takes most of the ball handling duties? I don't want a guy that has demonstrated he will take his ball and go home if he gets his feelings hurt or isn't happy about his role. All you people fantasizing about Simmons as a small ball 5 are going to be in for a rude awakening when he gets here and refuses to do that. There's no way a prima donna like Simmons will sacrifice his ego to become a roll man and put his body on the line to set hard picks. Please, Nico, don't fall for it. You can't fix a guy like Simmons.
