RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - KillerLeft - 01-02-2022 (01-02-2022, 05:13 PM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: Funny thing…here lately (as in the month of December), Powell lineups have been doing pretty good. He’s got a +/- of 6 in about 20 minutes per game for the month. The net rating for KP/Powell lineups in December is 15.9 (lest someone think the good numbers are only occurring when Powell is in w/o KP). 13 of the top 14 most used three-man lineups with Powell are positive in December. It isn’t that his individual numbers are all that different for the month…they aren’t. The time spent on the court is, however, more positive than in the two months prior. Dan, I love your contributions, and I always learn a ton from you. And, while I'm not as high on Powell as you, I'm much closer to your POV on him than anyone else here. I literally think I'm his 2nd biggest fan on the board. But, and I don't mean this dismissively, I don't care about this anymore. I just don't. I believe you, but I'm over it. IF the team insists on running some or much of the offense through KP at the high post (I wouldn't, but here we are), I just feel like we have to see that with shooters around him to give him some space. IF that approach is a given, I simply no longer care how Powell is playing. Or how the numbers say they're playing together. Even if it's working, I believe it could be working much, much better with better spacing. Again, no issues with Powell, who just the other day I was trying to convince @"Kammrath" is as good as Richaun Holmes, basically. (01-02-2022, 04:44 PM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Talking about KP. I think he looks really good when he gets a deep position and just needs to make a quick move to finish over a defender. That should be his focal point if he wants to get more inside touches (obviously next to another shooter, Kleber or DFS, not Powell). That´s what I would classify as a good post up attempt. Perfectly stated, imo. He is not even a top 40 center imo. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - aguiar95 - 01-03-2022 I wonder what Wood's value is now. Would fit like a glove here playing C for KP and being an ensurance in case KP misses games. Can roll and hit threes + his defense was pretty decent last year. Is Wood/Augustin for Green/Burke/WCS/1st (protected) enough? I don't mind the "locker room cancer" status as winning eliminates most of that. Weird...ty Terry had a similar post right before being let go RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Scott41theMavs - 01-03-2022 (01-03-2022, 11:13 AM)dynamicalVoid Wrote: Weird...ty Terry had a similar post right before being let go Frank is not the guy we should let go to keep Chriss. Understatement... RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mavs2021 - 01-03-2022 They will release WCS to sign Chriss imho. I still think there is something off about the team chemistry at (almost) full strength. I don´t know what it is, but the defense and off-ball movement of the starters was once again not very convincing, especially when you consider who they played. It´s once again reflected in the +/- numbers. Starters didn´t click. The bench looked much better imho. Luka´s skip passes to the corners have also become too predictable. Teams are sitting on those passing lanes now. Yeah, something just feels off. It was Luka's first game back and to be expected, he was not at his best. Regardless, I thought the Jalen and Luka backcourt to start the game would fit like a glove and allow us to get off to quick starts. I didn't feel that last night. Luka has such strong pull to this team that it impacts everything when he is on the court though. It has always been that way, but it just feels different this year so far. I can't put my finger on it, but it just feels a little off. It is only one game, so we will see how it looks in a week from now. Taking advantage of Wood being a somewhat distressed asset makes a ton of sense. Doing so without giving up any future picks would be ideal. It feels to me like many of the other players carry themselves and act and play differently when Luka is on the court. Almost a tentativeness, if that is the right word I am looking for. Like they want to do what the coaches are asking, but don't want to step on Luka's toes and want to defer to him as the Alpha talent. WCS is the most obvious option. I think it is impossible to trade him by himself without giving up an asset. I doubt there is any other team willing to pay 4 million for his services. So it would mean dumping him makes more sense. If we start thinking about packages with other players, there are more options. I will not go into pipedream trades for the likes of Grant at this moment, but rather look at smaller opportunities. Besides WCS, Mavs could easily miss both Browns and Burke due to all the logjam at guard and center spots - Mavs actually have huge number of similarly average players on all positions. I will assume the motivation for the other team to do the deal would be to save money. Combining WCS with around 3 million deal of Burke or S.Brown would allow Mavs to take back up to roughly 12 mil of salary. I am also assuming Mavs are not paying prime assets. Problem is both Brown and Burke are under contract for two seasons. Portland comes up first for me. They need to get something for both Nurkic and RoCo and they are both in that roughly 12 mil range. Portland is some 4 mil over the tax line and surely looking to get under, so they are a perfect target from money perspective. However, both players are by far best players in the deal, so the assets are the question. Would a couple of second rounders do the trick for either of those two or is their market price higher? Lamb and Satoransky could be interesting from money saving perspective, but perhaps a couple of million of cash could offset Burke/Brown two years on their deals. Sato is having a terrible season and it might be likely he will be cut anyway. Maybe the thinking goes if Chriss continues his solid play, you release Moses and tell him you want him to be your two way guy with the thinking come trade deadline they bring him back to the real roster if they can't find a taker for WCS. Even if allowable, it is a tricky conversation with Moses and agent.
