RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - SleepingHero - 01-01-2022 (01-01-2022, 01:02 PM)SamStetz Wrote: While there are some hurdles in the way of Dragic potentially returning to the Heat, it certainly sounds like Miami is where the 35-year-old wants to be. “Don’t kid yourself, Goran Dragic would love nothing more,” wrote Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel regarding a possible Dragic reunion with Miami. “He attended the Heat’s Tuesday victory over the [Washington] Wizards at FTX Arena and has been working out there, as his situation with the Raptors is sorted out. But, again, unless Goran goes to another team in the interim, he cannot be brought directly back by the Heat from the Raptors. With all due respect to Mario Chalmers, Goran is exactly what the Heat could use at the moment. But I doubt many, if any, have had second thoughts about utilizing his salary as the means to acquire Kyle Lowry.” – via Sam Leweck @ Heat Nation Well that sucks to hear. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mikelo - 01-01-2022 I agree that we need a powerful 4, to make a lot of noise..of specific characteristics so that it can fit well together with KP .. Siakam would be my choice, Raptors are not trying to win now, their age does not fit their rebuilding and they have Barnes / Anunoby filling their position, who are the new faces of the franchise .. Would it cost a lot to get it out? Brunson / THJ / Maxi +2 future 1 Round picks do it? With Tim / Maxi to a 3 team and Raptors getting some value back. Another name that could be on the table is Dallas native Randle ... Knicks could take a step back and Julius is having a bad year. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - ItsGoTime - 01-01-2022 I’ve been saying it all year. Thoughts change over time. What might have been a sure fire “I want to go to Dallas and play with Luka” isn’t always going to be the case months later. We should really stop the mentality of penciling Dragic into our roster design. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - WildArkieBoy - 01-01-2022 For seeming eternity this thread has been partially headlined; "confident in resigning JB." He is a limited guy..but shooting 40% in + than 10 attempts out of 3, .. are numbers, only surpassed by the alien Curry..I would take it on Tim, every day (36% of run in fewer attempts and I improve together to Luka) .. he is a role player and will only shine in an environment suitable for him ... curious to see him on our Mavs ... playing alongside Luka and see what he could do Hield is a better shooter than THJ. However, he is an even worse defender, I mean he is shitastically bad. They are both overpaid 6th men. He is a better point of attack defender, and we already have plenty of offensive fire power in that lineup. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Scott41theMavs - 01-01-2022 (01-01-2022, 10:57 AM)Mavs2021 Wrote: My (realistic) rotation for the rest of the season would be While I am not suggesting him as a big minutes guy, I think Chriss is fine as the active four alongside Porzingis who serves to protect him during the regular season. I love what I have seen from Chriss in these games. Doncic/Brunson Green/Ntilikina DFS/Bullock Chriss/Kleber Porzingis/Powell This of course presumes we don't trade KP. I love your idea of dumping THJ for an expiring if we can do it without spending assets. I simply don't think the Mavs can afford to let Brunson and or DFS walk, unless in the case of Brunson that a true star is coming back in return. In the playoffs, Brunson would replace Chriss in the starting lineup, since "protecting KP from center wear-and-tear" would be less of a concern. I'm likely a sucker, but what we have seen from JB, JG, DFS, RB, and MC during Luka's absence has made me believe that this team is actually more talented and deep than we thought. Luka and KP still don't fit together, but perhaps they could string together a good run. Which would of course be disappointing for our prospects in this year's draft, but oh well. Dumping THJ is key. I mean if we are planning on staying under the tax, dumping THJ is one of the better ways to do it, but if Cuban is willing to pay tax, why do we need to dump him? He still provides value, even if he is overpaid. Who do you think is higher on the depth chart: Frank or Josh? The video cuts are whatever they are, and I guess Franko thinks they make his points - which, to a certain extent they do. However, they are night and day. The Reggie cuts are simply him playing persistent 1-on-1 defense. The first one he gets burnt and keeps trying to contest, the second is going over two weakly set screens. The Frank cut is him looking, seeing he needs to protect KP's right more than staying with his original assignment and then switching to run the 3pt shooter off the line. Ok. So, multiple things could have gone wrong here. But the D-IQ displayed is, again, off the charts. Reggie's a very good on ball defender and a decent team defender - doesn't miss too many obvious rotations etc. Frank is, frankly, a savant. And his only weakness is tiny, speedy guards with a good handle and a run-up. cf. Fox on that play when the Mavs lost and Trae when the Knicks put Frank in for the last play of the game in the playoffs against ATL last year. He's having a tough season in NYK - the Knicks fans are almost universally baying for his blood. But his numbers* (apart from the 3pt %age) aren't shabby at all. And NYK desperately needs a PG. If Brunson really wants to run his own team that is a great fit. * & play ????? Hard to assess. At times he's disengaged on D, but he also seems really inside his own head right now. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - KillerLeft - 01-01-2022 I don't think Randle is a fit, especially with KP, but partially with Luka. I think his good seasons are the result of him being the best option on his team as an offensive initiator and being given the ball, allowed to go downhill with it. The disappointing ones seem to happen when his teams try to take the ball away from him and give it to someone more qualified to initiate offense. He doesn't seem to be able to succeed as easily as complementary player. That has always been my take, anyway. That's a very decent take. But he had the break-out season in NOP when AD when AWOL and was with Jrue (iirc???), had a not good year under terrible Fizdale coaching in NYK (and was playing the same position as Marcus Morris who was also starting!), and then a good year last year, half of which was with Derrick Rose inititing the offence. So, I'm not 100% sold on your idea. Moreover, I don't think he's greedy on offence. Now, whether he wants to be a #3/#4-role on a competing team at this point in his career is a different question. So, I'm not 100% sold on your idea. Hey, you might be right. I'm not a Randle expert. I have heard several national people I respect suggest that his effectiveness is all about how he's being used, and I don't agree that he wasn't the main initiator last season in NY, Rose or no Rose. What I have observed around here for more than a decade is this: "_____ is a big from another team I've heard of. He must be a good low-post scorer and rebounder." I do not think that assumption (which I'm not meaning to imply is how you think) is correct very often, and in Randle's case, specifically, I don't think his production or how he achieves it make him a clear fit with Luka and Porzingis. Possibly as a replacement for Porzingis, I suppose. If Porzingis is going to have the ball during a large portion of the time Luka doesn't, which seems to be the plan, then I'm struggling to see how his running mate (be it a 4 or a 5) can be anything buy a catch and shoot guy from range. Porzingis' game needs space to work, too. Even a rim-runner (which Randle definitely isn't) wouldn't fit, imo. It would help Luka, but not with KP in the way. Why Kleber wasn't the first logical attempt at complementing Porzingis this season, particularly because of the plan to get him the ball inside the arc, will always be a mystery to me. I think it's a crime that we haven't seen enough of that yet to know if it's going to work. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mavs2021 - 01-01-2022 Diallo has been balling lately for Detroit. 15/5 with two steals in his last 10. Last 3 games he averaged nearly 30 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals. Olynyk/Diallo for THJ is a trade, that could solidify our backcourt rotation and add some much need depth at PF/C. But both guys are interestingly similar on offense, IMO, as they thrive on going downhill and being physical with the ball.
