RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - cow - 12-28-2021 (12-28-2021, 08:16 PM)Scott41theMavs Wrote: The recent conversation on this thread (what can JB bring back in trade?) is the wrong one. Rather it's, what can KP and JB together bring back in trade? I'd keep them separate as you'd return more in the form of picks, contract dumps, talent in return or some combination of the three. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - RedFlag41 - 12-28-2021 Is a KP, Brunson and picks for Jaylen Brown possible? Financially it works for both teams but I don't think either would pull the trigger. I guess I'd need to know what you mean by "picks". RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - RedFlag41 - 12-28-2021 How about KP, Brunson and 2 future FRPs for Jaylen Brown? Jaylen Brown is a two-way player, can score and can defend alongside Luka. KP can play the 4 and the 5 for the Celtics, Brunson can play the scoring guard they need alongside Smart who will be a better fit with him in the backcourt. Two immediate starters and two 1st rounders? I like Brown a lot, but that's a bad deal for Dallas. Too rich for my blood or I'd want some heavy protections on those picks and I still think the Celtics would say no. You are also handcuffed for a long time as you'll not be able to trade a FRP for a long time. And picks that far out could be really valuable if things go really wrong. You also have a big hole for your front court. Here some 2022 FAs: Nurk Ayton Favors Bryant Bamba Robinson Harrell Portis M Morris And I like Brown a lot. I'd take him over Tatum. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - RedFlag41 - 12-28-2021 Well, you still have the mighty Dwight Powell at center, and they have to plantoon Maxi, Moses and have to sign Chriss to a regular roster contract to play back up minutes at the 5. The Mavs can have a starting line up of Luka, JB, DFS, Maxi, DP and with FN, THJ, RB, SB, Chriss as back ups. You are all probably right, that is too much to give up for the Mavs. I was just thinking that Jaylen is a better fit with Luka in the starting up. I'm thinking more long term. That move makes you worse this season. That's not a knock on the idea or Brown (who I think is about everything you can ask for next to Luka). RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - ClutchDirk - 12-28-2021 KP and Brunson better bring back Lillard or similar or it is a bad trade... I'd rather have Brown than Lillard. He could be a long term running mate with Luka and the fit is better in my estimation. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Branduil - 12-28-2021 I'm on board with the basic framework of KP+stuff for Brown, but it needs to be only one of Brunson and the picks, not both. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - dynamicalVoid - 12-29-2021 If I was Presti...I would be dialing Mark's phone number daily to see what I could get for our FRP's. I dont care what the analyst say...I dont care about the teams philosophy with the draft...I dont care about the teams draft history or the ability to draft... This team and this board treat FRP's like nickels...just willing to give them away. Want to trade us player for player?...We'll throw in 2 SRP's just cause. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - omahen - 12-29-2021 Here and there I check the Hawks board and there are some opinions that Capella might be available. So would you trade KP for Capela and Gallo? Capella gives us elite defender and PnR guy. I think we would be able to insert Brunson in a starting line-up with him and still have good defense. Gallo is a decent player and a very tradeable contract for draft night. Atlanta gets arguably best player in the trade. Main problem is Mavs would need to be prepared to pay tax next season. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mavs2021 - 12-29-2021 I think in all these deals (RE Simmons/House overpaid players podcast) you always have to factor in Brunson. Acquire a high-end or high paid PG like Westbrook or Fultz, and it increases the odds of pushing Brunson out of the door. I have arrived at the point, where I´d like to keep Porzingis until the summer (at least). First try to move some of the other pieces. ============= I have looked at all the recent mock drafts and most project four of the top five to be Smith/Holmgren/Panchero/Duren. Right now Orlando has a 80% probability to pick in the top 5. Looking at the Magic depth chart right now. They´ll have to make a move... SF Wagner PF Isaac/Okeke C WCJ/Bamba (RFA) Given how well Wagner is playing there is not much of a chance to shift Isaac or Okeke to the SF position, so they´ll most certainly move either Isaac or let Bamba walk. We already missed out on Jarrett Allen, but Isaac and Bamba are probably the next best options for our version of the (t)win towers. I wonder whether Orlando would do THJ/Kleber for Harris/Bamba or just Isaac straight up. It´s two quality players for two expiring contracts they could lose for nothing or a very injury-prone player they invested heavily in, whose position could be blocked by a top 3 rookie pick. That´s the team I target to upgrade our front court with a young partner or potential replacement for Porzingis. I don't think the Mavs plan is to go with a "twin towers" concept as their primary approach. I think the goal was to sneak 10 or 20 minutes of KP court time with somebody who could take a little wear and tear off him. The KP/Powell minutes were steadily going down before all the injuries/Covid and they rarely finished games together. That is not a role you spend significant assets on. If we were looking to truly invest in a "twin towers" concept, we had the perfect opportunity with Holmes being available in the 12-14 range. If we were set on re-signing THJ, we could have operated under the cap and signed both guys (potentially losing Bullock, WCS and our 10 mil TPE). This opinion may not fly with the KP doomers, but when I look at both sides of the deal (team needs, age, skill, productivity, etc) I think a fair trade would be KP for Brown straight-up (Boston would have to include another small salary for cap purposes, but that's just a numbers thing). IMO Dallas and Boston are in a similar spot with two young stars that aren't adding up to the expected number of wins. A simple trade of Robin for Robin in positions of need would arguably help both teams. But piling on assets beyond that quickly does more harm than good.
