RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mikelo - 12-16-2021 all healthy .. I would say that. Luka / Brunson / DFS / Maxi / KP is the best lineup..I see 2 clear holes in 2nd and 4th..Brunson not due to lack of talent, but his defense with Luka is a problem and Maxi is better in 2nd unit and limited minutes .. I hope that we are active and imaginative in the market and with a medium-term vision. I think we should move Jalen now as he is our best asset and we have bigger holes to fill than an elite endorsement..moving him to the Knicks for our 23 + Kemba / Knox pick for Brunson / Bullock is something he would do .. Green / Frank fight for Bullock's minutes .. And Kemba / Burke take Brunson's .. This summer With Powell expiring and all teams go for a striker who will take us to the next level .. (Siakam / Anunoby / /Isaak/Grant) RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - DanSchwartzgan - 12-18-2021 Bleacher Report idea (not rumor). Very popular to send out Brunson and/or THJ in trade scenarios. Philly getting Bird rights is probably a better investment than it would be for other teams. Trade is fairly well thought out with Philly staying just barely below the tax. NY/Dallas would need to take restrictions off of 2023 in order to send 2025 in this deal (or 2025 would need to be conditional on what happens in 2023). Mavs Get Luka Playmaking Help with Ben Simmons, Kemba Walker New York Knicks Receive: PF Charles Bassey Philadelphia 76ers Receive: PG Jalen Brunson, SG Tim Hardaway Jr., F Dorian Finney-Smith, 2025 first-round pick (lottery-protected, via Dallas Mavericks) It's time to get Doncic some playmaking help and kill the Simmons saga in Philadelphia once and for all. The Mavericks need a spark following a mediocre 13-13 start to the season, especially with a net rating (minus-0.9) that ranks just 20th overall. Getting another jumbo-sized ball-handler seems a little unfair for the rest of the league, especially with one of the greatest point guards of all time in Jason Kidd guiding Simmons in Dallas. Playing Doncic off-ball more would help open up the rest of his game, and the fourth-year point guard is hitting 44.4 percent of his catch-and-shoot threes this season. Walker would take over Brunson's role as an offensive spark off the bench, and his lack of defense would be negated by the addition of Simmons. A starting lineup of Simmons, Doncic, Reggie Bullock, Kristaps Porzingis and either Dwight Powell or Maxi Kleber with Walker off the bench should compete for home-court advantage in the West playoffs. Even though Philly doesn't get the All-Star player it craves for Simmons, Brunson is averaging 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists and shooting 48.8 percent overall this season at age 25. Hardaway (14.0 points) is a proven rotation scorer, and Finney-Smith is a multipositional defender who's hitting 37.1 percent of his threes this season. A future first gives the Sixers some additional trade ammo as well. The Knicks join this deal to salary-dump Walker, who went from starting point guard to out of the rotation. New York saves $7.8 million this season and wipes off Walker's $9.1 million owed to him next year too. And one of the side effects of Luka missing a few games is that Brunson has been able to show off a bit. His numbers in 9 games as a starter this season: 20 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds in 34 mpg. That's like... (checks notes)... Ben Simmons with more scoring. I honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if Brunson ends up in Philly in a Simmons deal. He'd immediately take over the PG role, he's a local Nova hero, and getting his Bird rights now is something that would have value to Philly in terms of timing. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mikelo - 12-18-2021 I doubt that package will not be outdone..but if so then do it..Ben has its flaws but is a 3x allstart and 25 year old DPOY favorite..Maybe it works fine, in a Draymond role..if it doesn't work , we would have a great bargaining chip..all Ben needs to increase his value..is playing RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Kammrath - 12-18-2021 (12-18-2021, 02:04 PM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: Dallas Mavericks Receive: PG Ben Simmons, G Kemba Walker Yes please.....though I hate Kemba coming, but oh well, give me Simmons. Including DFS? Terrible. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - omahen - 12-18-2021 If Philly wanted to sell Simons for a couple of non stars, they would have sold him half a year ago. I just don't see it. In addition to that, Maxey is producing very good numbers and is cost controlled for 2 more years, so I am not sure Philly would take another small guard unless he is an absolute star. Brunson, THJ, FRP RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Mavs2021 - 12-19-2021 I think the Mavs need to make smart small moves. Walker/Knox for Bullock would be such a move. We are starving for some play-making. Knicks only know good Bullock. Kemba is averaging 13/3/3 with 42% 3pt shooting. Perfectly fine numbers for a bench PG. Yeah his defense is bad, but once again the character assassination police is out in full force. Our bench is full of defensive guards, but we need a 3rd play-maker. Smart GMs actually want to get in on these hated guys (at the right price), not the overhyped media darlings. Guys like Randle, Lavine, DeRozan, Valanciunas or Markkanen, that get blamed for shortcomings out of their responsibilities. Knox is a RFA and barely playing, but he´s also shooting 42% from three. They want Powell. Throw him in as well. Not only does it improve our salary cap flexibility, but I´d bet a lot of money it would balance our rotation nicely and bring out better line-ups. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Kammrath - 12-21-2021 Couple things: 1) Super impressed with Nico evaluating Pinson and Chriss for their fits. 2) Super impressed with Kidd integrating them on the fly in a winning effort. Me when I first heard the signings: "Pinson? Who the crap is that? Chriss, well...he was a lottery pick...annnhhh, maybe." Me after looking them up: "I guess we lost 3 point shooting and defense..." Me after the game: "I'll shut up now. Do your job, Nico and Kidd." Let's be honest though about Jason Kidd as a player. He was always the best thinking on the fly and coming up with some creative advantage. I go back to him running into Mike Brown who was on the court at the time...sheer genius. We'll see how he turns out over time, but I'm not down on him as a coach. There's some definite improvements to make, but there's also some promising things. I think he started this year giving everyone a clean slate and has held to that, allowing people to play their way into and out of the rotation, at least, where we could. If a position group is just sucking so bad that you have to have a bad player on the floor, you can't fix that as quick as a rotation change. I'm willing to give him a season or two at least. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Omega_Supreme - 12-22-2021 I am ready to fight anyone that hints at trading Jalen Brunson who is the 2nd best player on the team. He is good enough to take a chance with in the offseason. He showed why he is more valuable than KP last night and should be the number 1 option when KP is on the court. #TeamBrunson RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - cow - 12-22-2021 (12-22-2021, 11:37 AM)Omega_Supreme Wrote: I am ready to fight anyone that hints at trading Jalen Brunson who is the 2nd best player on the team. Fight me then. JB has a knack for scoring. He is super crafty and I find myself thinking of him as a discount version of CP3. But we also saw some of the bad from JB last night: questionable shot selection, terrible lob passes to Chriss, terrible cross court passes when facing a double team especially when the easy pass would have led to a wide open three, trying to do too much on the offensive end. I'd love to have JB back but I have not idea what to pay him. If he gets a contract nearing THJ, I think we'll regret that down the line. It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. He'll be impossible to replace but keeping him long term with THJ/KP is a problem for this team's ceiling. All that said, I do think the Mavs will retain him. Totally with you here. I just feel like of the three, Brunson is the one I'd like to have the most. I know roster building can't/doesn't always work out that way. It's just too much of a defensive liability against the best teams in the league. Compared to THJ, I am way more comfortable giving JB the rock as the 6th man and telling him to go get buckets. The "easy" solution is to trade THJ and resign JB. This would be the ideal scenario as long as JB doesn't want to start. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - mvossman - 12-22-2021 (12-22-2021, 01:35 PM)cow Wrote: I'm with you there too. I agree that both guys don't really fit in the starting lineup. Its one of the many reasons I did not want to sign THJ (and especially not at 19). I'm also not a fan of signing a 6th man for 15+, especially when we have so may holes in the starting lineup. I like Brunson better as a player, especially because he is younger and has room for growth, but he is the one with actual value right now. He is also the one with the small trade window. Has to be by TDL or we get nothing for him. THJ will likely have more value in a year or two when he has less years and descending salary. I'm also skeptical this FO is going to dump his salary a few months after they signed him. I fear he has fallen in the same category as Powell. |
