Ya could be the case but he looked pretty fresh the times he's been out since the injury. I think it's still ok to let Green, Frank and Brown duke it out for that last rotation spot (although personally I think Frank has done plenty to win those minutes and then some) but definitely found it interesting that Kidd's first use of Green in meaningful minutes was right after Bane said his piece. Yep, had the same thought. Give JG the chance to show it on the court against Bane. All it would take is a KP opt out, or to move him by next year's tdl for expiring deals. I bet that becomes the plan pretty soon. I don't know that the fan base has the patience for that, so it's possible we're headed for some really tough morale in Mavs land. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - omahen - 12-09-2021 Ayton and Luka have same agent. Marc J. Spears on Twitter: "“I’m just putting my head down and working. Me? Is Cuban willing to go at least 10M into the tax for a 0.500 team, cause that´s the minimum it would take to re-sign DFS and Brunson. The positive spin: We will see some moves. The negative spin: Bye-bye Dorian and/or Jalen. I want to see Brunson starting for a few months. We don't need to pay another bench guy starter money and that's what it'll cost to keep him Which he is playing pretty big minutes but still an issue if he and Luka aren't meshing 100% together Bringing in Dragic as the backup PG after a buyout hopefully happens soon. Then swap out Brunson for Powell. Keep Hardaway as the 6th man with Bullock starting RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - cow - 12-10-2021 (12-10-2021, 02:04 AM)Jym Wrote: I want to see Brunson starting for a few months. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Omega_Supreme - 12-10-2021 I am still trying to figure out from you guys why you are so willing to trade two of our most consistent players in DFS and Brunson just because they are up for contract extensions. The top 3 tradeable assets on the team should be: THJ - will be 33 when contract is over Maxi - will be 32 when contact is over DP - will be 32 when contract is over All of those guys are 30 and older and outside of our timeline. If you have to move them for picks or smaller contracts you do it. I love Maxi but DFS and Brunson are longer term pieces to the championship puzzle IMO. It's because we strongly suspect Cuban is going to let one or both of them sign with other teams for no compensation of any kind. The salary cap projections that were floating around yesterday make that seem even more likely. I would like that, too, but I'd switch him with Bullock, not the guy who can play 3 or 4 and is super consistent. EDIT: I might have misread you - I thought you were suggesting Brunson for DFS, based on context leading up to your post, but reading again you specifically say Powell. Ok got it, well I just hope Cuban is not that stupid to trade a 25 year old guard having the best year of his career. Brunson should definitely be a starter. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - StrandedOnBeauboisHill - 12-10-2021 (12-10-2021, 10:43 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: It's because we strongly suspect Cuban is going to let one or both of them sign with other teams for no compensation of any kind. Not trying to defend Cuban necessarily but aren't we suggesting these names because we think that the front office is at least smart enough to get back compensation of any kind before it comes to that? I'm actually starting to think that Brunson isn't going to get moved at all this season though but will during the offseason in a S&T. I think it's probably best for both parties unless some sort of deal presents itself this season that makes sense but it will be tough. I do think teams like NYK and Boston and even Brooklyn could be desperate enough for a PG of Brunson's caliber to help us make something happen this season (Brunson + Indy filler to NYK, Hardaway/Mitchell Robinson/our 2023 pick to Indy, Kemba and Myles Turner to Dallas is something I've had in my head since the Turner news). Also, it's definitely felt like this team's only path to contention was going to come after 2023 already after KP never really lived up to the hype. Not just from a cap space perspective but from the perspective that we'll have flexibility cap wise and also have meaningful first round picks to trade. I think it's hilarious whenever we're like "we'll just trade a FRP for so and so" because who the hell would want our 2027 FRP? Our biggest mistake in recent years was trading our 2019 FRP for Luka instead of taking on Bazemore's contract because we'd be out of the mess by now if we had done the latter. Luckily, most teams in the west are in the same position after unloading a ton of FRPs so it kind of evens the playing field in a sense. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - Halfnir - 12-10-2021 (12-10-2021, 10:39 AM)Omega_Supreme Wrote: I am still trying to figure out from you guys why you are so willing to trade two of our most consistent players in DFS and Brunson just because they are up for contract extensions. Because they are the only good assets (good player on a cheap contract) on our roster, so if you have to make a trade desirable to the other side, you either have to add one of the 2 and/or drafts picks. And there is a huge possibilty that they are lured away from the Mavs by another team in free agency, esp. Brunson who seems to be looking for a starter spot, a significant contract and also seems to be more of an east coast person. it's not that everyone dislikes them as a player, quite the contrary. The Mavs can not allow their largest (only?) assests to leave for nothing. Guys like THJ or DP most likey have negative trade value due to the amount of money they are owed. Maxi is the only other player on the roster (other than Luka) that i would consider as slightlly positive value. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - omahen - 12-10-2021 (12-10-2021, 11:53 AM)StrandedOnBeauboisHill Wrote: I think it's hilarious whenever we're like "we'll just trade a FRP for so and so" because who the hell would want our 2027 FRP? We can also trade 2025 if we lift protections from NY pick and I can quickly give two examples of late FRP traded. 1. Milwaukee paid 2025 and 2027 FRP for JRue (in addition to pick from I think 2020 draft) in 2020. 2. Denver paid 2025 FRP for Gordon a year ago. Besides, I think such late FRP could have value. Who knows if Mavs will still be competitive then. It is very likely that next three picks will not be really high RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL has $10.866M TPE | confident in resigning JB - KillerLeft - 12-10-2021 (12-10-2021, 11:53 AM)StrandedOnBeauboisHill Wrote: I'm actually starting to think that Brunson isn't going to get moved at all this season though but will during the offseason in a S&T. I am way ok with the Mavs betting on Brunson and DFS with long term deals. That's probably my favorite option. But, I don't think Cuban will pay a tax next season, so that would require others to be moved (thought not until next season's trade deadline, I guess). I am ok with the idea of moving one or both in a deal that has something helpful coming back, but I don't think Cuban will pay a tax next season, so I have a hard time seeing that happen. I am ok with the idea of letting one or both go to other teams and recouping some value through sign and trade, though I think this might be unlikely for the same cap reasons. Maybe something small, just to allow a room team to maximize their flexibility, but at that point how much of an improvement is it to just allowing them to walk? I guess we'll see. I am absolutely not ok with letting either DFS, Brunson or both (two of their top 4-5 players, anyway you slice it) walk away in free agency with nothing returning, and I kid you not, I feel like that's what we're headed towards. Cap room '23 is about to be the plan. It's plain as day. I hope I'm wrong. |
